      NEW INFO: I am a retard. I did not check this when I bought the motor.
      Ran the part # on the ECM to narrow down the years, and it is a 2.0l ECM.
      So, dumb me, just thought to check the back of the block.

      Yup, its a 2.0l 16v. Yay me. So the following info is incorrect.
      But I still need the breakdown on the wires and plugs I have.

      Okay, 1.8 16v ce1. These two plugs mount near the ecm in the rain tray.
      I am told they are the ecm and motor wiring power/control wires.
      Can anyone tell me what they are. this will be going into a 83 rabbit gti.

      Those connectors are from CIS-Motronic.

      Black connector

      Black/White=IGN 12v for ISV/Cold Start/On-Off Valve/Freq Valve
      Red=Constant 12v
      Red/White=O2 Heater
      Red/Yellow=Pump Relay Ground
      Black=IGN 12v to ECU
      Black/Yellow=IGN 12v to Coil

      Grey

      Blue/White=Cluster
      Red/Black=Tach Input
      White/Green=Ground
      Yellow/Black=Diagnostic
      Yellow=Diagnostic
      Grey/White=Diagnostic

      You can ditch the grey connector. After you remove the old management you should be left with a red/black wire at the coil(1) for your tach input and a black wire at the coil(15) for IGN 12v. You can use the coil(15) wire and feed the black/yellow wire from the connector. You can use the wire powering the old ecu and connect it to the black wire of the connector. You wont connect the red/yellow wire because the relay is grounded via the fuse box and powered from the coil(1) red/black wire. You will have to run a constant 12v wire for the red wire of the connector. I suggest you relay the the remaining red/white and black/white wires.

      thank you for the break down. I have been scouring pages of wiring diagrams trying to figure it out.

      I will have a few updates when I get started!!!!!

      " I suggest you relay the the remaining red/white and black/white wires."

      This may be a dumb question, but will I be running individual relays for both wires or am I able to run them off the same one?
