I'm very happy with the results - it really provides a nice focal point for the room. More importantly, my wife absolutely loves it. If there was anything I would do differently, it would be to install a thicker mantle. The 2" thick stock I used gets a bit lost in the expanse of stone.
Now we just need to get some artwork back up on the walls, and get a shallow book case or two for the space on either side of the stone. We also plan to move the dog crate to the basement. I've been considering an Ekornes Stressless chair for that corner.

That turned out really well. Very nice. I see what you are saying about the mantle but I'm not sure how much better it could have turned out.

You can easily attach a wood valence to make it appear thicker, or, a nice detail would be to add a slightly wider and deeper mantle on top of the existing.

Looks great. I'm sure it looks even better in person, but your camera is getting confused by the light bouncing of that wall.![]()

Question - do you have a corner detail shot? How did you handle the corners - factory corners, butt joints, weave, miter?
