Thread: *Warranty225cpe*Franken turbo F23 build... Like you didn't see this coming...

  1. 04-05-2012 07:48 PM #1
Well, I couldn't hold off anymore. The car is sitting in the garage in a puddle of its own goodness. It's been 3 weeks since the turbo gave its last breath. I ordered the turbo from Doug, but I'm super sketched out about the rod situation. So today I went ahead and ordered a set of 20mm rods from IE. I might be over prepping, but oh well. Id rather be over prepared than needing new rods/motor We will be doing new piston rings as well as rod bearings and some other little things We will be adding a catch can and cleaning things up a bit.
The car is going to my buddies shop as soon as parts start to arrive. This build will HOPEFULLY be documented by my him along the way. I'll give strict instructions to take pics for a "propper DIY" or a good beating

BTW, before any of you guys decide to tell me "why I should just go big turbo", save that
I'm building a daily driver with 300whp/300wtq as the goal.

Oh and E85 is the next step, so who knows where we will end up.

Big thanks to Doug and Max for the direction and stellar support
    For real, "BIG UPS!"

ou really should have done a pagparts kit.... I know one guy that might be selling his set-up .

But for real, I think the F23 is going to be a great turbo for you! I will be watching this build for sure. .

PS: Big turbos are not !!

E85 and F23 is one nasty combo for the streets if done right! You already got half of the "done right" by doing rods and such, I'll be watching the results!

I'm not one to compete over who's got more powa
But I AM all about learning from others to lessen the growing pains of an upgrade like this.

I'm in Florida. I'll see if there are any dynos around once I get a "base tune".

Will be following. sounds like a good combo. You have a lot of E85 stations down there in south FL. Closest one to me(Daytona) is 30min away

Good to hear your working on a nice and reliable street setup. Big turbo setups never last for long without buckets and buckets of cash due to the whole idea that you can never have too much power.

    I will be watching this

Yeah I'm going to plan on Maestro as far as tuning. For right now, we'll see what it feels like with my APR 93 flash. I'm sure it will suck, but it is what it is for now. I'm taking baby steps since this wasn't really a planned venture. At least I have the big and painful issue getting sortTed first (rods). If I go with Maestro I can start with a base file and eventually try a 1.8t E85 file and tune from there. I've never had a lap top so I have zero experience with logging data or tweaking the ecu. Let's hope that doesn't bite me in the ass.

Just bought my IE rods this morning. I also bought their valve cover and block breather adapters. We're going to be adding those to a 42dd stealth can. I'm trying to figure out how I can get get braided lines to run for the can, that will thread into the 10AN fittings. I also picked up the Hose Candy master fitting kit and the master hose kit.

    That's today's update

Skip braided and just run push on fittings. No need for da braid, and this way, the hoses are....wait for it...........black!

that should work. I'm just trying to get rid of as many hose clamps as possible. I guess if I go with push on, I need to find fittings that will thread into the 2 fittings from IE. any idea what fittings I can thread into the IE stuff? Really only need 2 90* bends. One from the valve cover, and one from the block breather.

Trying to figure out the injector situation. I have 2 questions..

    1. If I plan on running E85 what size injectors will I need with the maestro software?
    2. If I buy big injectors for an e85 tune, can I use the big injectors to run a 93 file as well?

    Parts should start arriving Thursday

    1. 630cc at 3.5 to 4.0 bar of rail pressure would cut it for the F23. With that said, 750cc and 830cc would give you some headroom and space to grow if needed!

    2. You can use the big injectors for the 93 file or whatever floats your boat, you just need to adjust fueling with Unisetting or lemmiwinks to account for the different stoichometric value.

Don't know the size of the IE fittings and too lazy to look. Just go to Summit or Jegs and you can start filtering the fittings down by M/F, thread size, color, push barb, etc.

What Marcus said except you can adjust through Maestro and it's really easy. You just change the injector constant to account for the additional fuel required by e85. Make the ECU think the injectors are smaller than they are and they inject the additional fuel needed because it increases the amount of time they are open for.

For example I run my 900cc injectors at 4bar, yielding around 1000cc of injector. I tell Maestro they are 707cc which is 30% smaller than they are and makes them add the additional fuel I need.

I basically wrote what you just posted but then edited my original post because I realized that Eric was talking about making big injectors work for the time being with his F23 on pump gas until he gets Maestro.

    Update!!
Got home from work today and had a sweet surprise

The turbo seems like a very nice quality piece. The TIP is huge! Surgery is planned for Monday.
I'm a little dissapointed in the lack of a sticker in the box though..
    I NEED A STICKER DOUG!!

Aww, that's cute. The compressor is even bigger than the turbine AND the inlet is almost as big as the ext. WG! J/K. I'll admit, I'm jealous with my lowly K03 daily driver.

Yeah, it's not big turbo material. But it the perfect size for my needs. Once I get a fuel pump, injectors and an e85 tune, I'm SET!
I'm not sure what kind of numbers I'll be looking at as far as HP/TQ. But I will be more than happy with anything in the 300/300 range. That's the magic number for a daily in my book. What do you guys think I would dyno with a mild/conservative e85 tune..? 350hp/330tq? (gives me the chills just thinking about it)

Yeah, 300 is fun, for a while. You'll have rods, so then 400 isnt out of reach. Next thing you know its a stroker, and a tube mani, and and and.

How much are all of the parts? What's the cost of labor (when you get the car back)?

    Looks good so far
