Nah, Coach cracked his bumper where the bolts press into the plastic.

    Good eye Doug

What's the word on the build? I'm doing a F23 build aswell and hoping to use my APR 91 program, any thoughts?

Yeah, everything is great so far. Still on my APR93 tune. No issues with running lean as of yet. I've limited my boost to 17psi so far. I will turn it up a little in the next week or so.

Don't mind the dirty interior, haven't gotten that far yet.

I did manage to give it a good cleaning though.

What's your opinion of that alteration? Does it look really horsey? Or is it fairly unobtrusive when you see it in person?

Looks pretty good from a distance. I think it could have come out a little better than it did. I think it's a GREAT idea if executed well. I've thought about making my own Osir style vented fenders. Wouldn't be too difficult.

I've kicked that around as well, my underhood heat is terrible in summer and the TT has next to no venting. I debated hood vents or louvers but I'd rather hack up cheap extra fenders than go to town on the hood. Its also nice the fenders are steel, easy to weld

Yeah a very easy mod. It just takes some nutts. That's one thing about coachVtt, hes not scared. It takes a special kind of dude to cut into a $900+ hood. I would like to do the hood and fenders to match eachother.

Not sure if i missed it or not, but what kind of FMIC are you running? im starting to collect parts for my f23 e85 build

Still overboosting on the highway. While building boost I can hear air escaping coming from around the driver side, firewall area. My tru boost is set to 15psi, but I'm still seeing spikes of 18-19 on the gauge. I'm thinking it's a loose or leaking line going to my WG actuator. That would explain the sound I'm hearing. It doesn't leak when pressure testing through the intake though. So I guess I'll have to pressurize the line and see if it holds air.

Anyone have any other ideas for why I could be overboosting?

  12. 07-02-2012 07:57 PM #117
Waste gate flapper could be not opening far enough.

What psi do you get if you just run waste gate pressure? No boost controller just the boost line straight to the waste gate.

Take it to close to redline to see if you get boost creep.

I just reached back there and turned the clamp on the wastegate vac line, almost a full turn. The shop used crap clamps and even worse vac line. I might have fixed it.
    To answer your question,
I'm boosting 10psi on WG pressure (forge actuator with higher rated spring).

Warranty, are you running the stock down pipe? Any reason you didn't go with the Franken manifold?

Nah, 42DD down pipe (btw: best customer support/service..ever). I didn't by the manifold because of my budget. I probably will sometime soon. It WAS a toss up between Doug's manifold and the JBS. But I think I'll send my business Doug's way because the difference in performance is probably not that big. And more so because Doug (aka Frankenturbo) is more worthy of my business. That BS with the "reworked JBS manifold" thread, kinda grouped them with the rest of the companies I won't do business with. I might not have tons of mod money, but I'll use it as appropriately as possible.

    Rant complete..

  16. 07-03-2012 11:19 PM #121
I see, Doug has been awesome and very helpfu. I went with the FT manifold, but am having a minor hickup installing it due to the heat shield. I didn't go with the down pipe just yet for the same reason you didn't go with the manifold. Our cars are so very similar, had the TT in for a water pump fix, and they messed up the timing and bashed a vavle into a piston. Long story short, total engine rebuild, new clutch kit, lighten flywheel, F23 setup and misc. Stuff. Hoping to come out on top. :/ should have the TT back after two months.

wow warranty, your car looks great.

  18. 02-10-2013 10:29 AM #123
So, since I last posted on this thread I've found my issue. We found that the bushing that holds the WG door had come out of its position. After welding the bushing back in place, the WG door still wasn't closing all the way. Doug was kind enough to send me a replacement. Well, the new F23 goes in tomorrow. Along with rear brakes/wheel bearings, and a good coolant flush. Looks like this build just got a little kick start.

My apologies for not modding/posting about my money pit in a while. Having your car not running right for almost a year makes me a little sad in the pants. This activity is a sign of things to come with this thing. Time to make that short list even shorter.

Haha, agreed. Black on black is where it's at. I almost rather a car that doesn't run. Breaks my heart stepping on the gas and it doesn't build boost the way it should

This is the same boat I'm in right now, Maestro and spiking around 26psi then hold 20... Next pull sipke 20 hold 20..... and this is out of the base tune.

Also I keep hitting limp mode and most of the time thats 6psi and can hardly pull its own weight around.

HAve you taken a look at your WG and WG actuator?

Your having issues with blowing gaskets right? Once you get the manifold squared away, use Nordlock washers on those bolts.

I have not got that far yet, this is day 5 with the maestro and have left everything alone but the deletes. Now I'm on day 2 with no cel and crazy a$$ boost levels.. But I have added washers to my turbo xs bov (yes its plumbed back) and the boost will spike high but the neddle is a lot better at giving a reading. I have hit limp I don't know how manytimes and every time its for other then boost.

When I change the oil im going to put the boost leak tester on it and make sure there are no leaks anywhere and I know there is one that is on the hot side pipe but I will be fixing that and others if there are any. Then too the wastegate and make sure its not leaking like your old one!

If nothen else I just take 20-30% out of the boost table or just use quick tunes till I really learn how to use the boost PID, duty, and load maps.

Find/fix your boost leak first. None of that is gonna do any good if your running like crap because of a leak

it's really sound advice.. No point in chasing anything else until the basics are accounted for. I had a loose clamp in the IC inlet side and boost gauge showed acceptable vacuum readings. However under pressure I was pushing half my boost out into the world. 10 mins checking all hose clamps and problem solved.

Will post pics as soon as I can get things buttoned up. Turns out they plugged my WG actuator line to my non existant N75. Should have gone to my UNOS. They couldn't figure out why it was boosting to 29psi. That and they got a quick lesson on zip ties. I should have it back, better than ever.. Very soon. Letting it cool off from the drive home, then ill dive in and get this thing squared away.

Glad to see this thread is still alive and things are progressing - gives me hope! I got my F23 about the same time you did (I think I'm SN #0340), but have been *slowly* doing the work on my own (unheated garage makes it tough to get motivated). Definitely envious of how awesome your car looks too.

Thanks man. The number plate on mine fell off.. only to reveal a different number engraved underneath. This project has almost ended on a few occasions. The fiancé has been trying to convince me to get rid of it. It's been a hard argument in her favor. I'm about 2 weeks short of a year driving around with a useless turbo. It's fuching painfull. The WG flap and hardware on the new F23 was noticeably beefed up from the original I had. Which just points to the evolution in the development of the F23. I can actually still hear the flap creeping open in higher psi range (about 19psi) but I think I can remedy that with a spring on the a actuator. All in all, it feels MUCH better than the first turbo did. I did hit limp on the 40 mile trip back from the shop, but I found that the shop had no clamp or zip tie on the WG actuator nipple. I haven't had a chance to test drive since I fixed that. Ill give you guys an update tomorrow once I get a chance to drive it.

The car runs MUCH better. But Im still hearing/feeling a little creep of the WG flap. Im gonna try one of Max's springs on there tonight to see if that helps. I believe it will. Cant wait to ge this thing running right so I can screw it all up again with an E85 tune

Did you ever think that the APR tune you're running is not helping your car running correctly situation? I would run that thing on a custom gas tune before switching to E85 and adding more variables.

Running corn protects and solves problems instead of screwing things! The only hard thing is fine tuning the cold start and warm up enrichments, but you're lucky and don't have that kind of weather in the Sunshine State.

Awesome to hear you got it all together! I actually had a dream about you and your car, rattle and all, last night. You were big fat gut though. Shocked me!

How is the power with the f23? I'm torn between calling up Noah, or going with a pte 5862. That or the set of seats...
    It's not always about "racekar"...
