So I am seeking some ideas as to what this could be.. It started last night after a spirited ride home...
seems that when you rev the car in neutral with the clutch in or out I hear this noise.. Wish I could describe it better.. but I really cant..

I guess it almost sounds like something bouncing around somewhere...
the car has 200k on it and I am still on the original clutch.. My friend seems to think it could possibly be the flywheel..
On a cold start or a short drive it doesn’t seem to be there...

here are a couple videos, you could kind of hear it on the way down the RPM's... more towards the ends of each video..
there’s another sound there and I know its the shift rod bushings... but could this sound be more prominent when the car is driven a tad harder??

sorry I am trying to figure out where to record this sound from to get the most out of it.. Think tonight ill try to get another video from the ground up!

I hit 200k and some odd crap has been happening!! freaking making me mad...
threw a belt, Tensioner took a crap and now this! all within 2 weeks!!

Well here's another video from after work today...
I think it's clutch related at this point..
Witt the car off, if you push the clutch pedal down and bring it back up you hear a clunk... The video is what it sounds like after driving it home 50miles....

Also this video is from under the car this time.. The other 2 are from random spots on top of the engine bay...

sounds like timing chain guides. If your going that far to do the guides might as well do Chain, clutch, rear main and slave cylinder

Why is the sound there sometimes and not all the time?

I have my friend who thinks it could be the flywheel.. I don't know **** is pissing me off my chains dont really make to much noise to me @ least.. Especially if I pop the oil cap off to listen...

Yeah this is true... It is time to explore while its coming apart...
I am ordering the Clutch kit and Chain Kit just to be safe when it all comes apart... I feel @ 200k I might as well just replace it all...

To me it sounds like it is clutch/flywheel related. If everything is original, I suspect it is the flywheel. At 130K when I replaced mine, it had a lot of slop and I'm sure it would have started to make noise. It doesn't sound like timing chains to me, they usually have a metallic marbles-rolling-around sound. Are you sure it isn't coming from any of the accessories or the tensioner pulley?

Yeah I have another noise over there but its my AC pulley.. the sounds I recorded are both from the Trans side of the car...
Yeah my friend @ VW doesnt think its the chains either, and the fact that I do not here it when its cold, makes me think its not the chains either.. figured the sound would be worse if it were the chains... I spoke to someone @ 4 seasons yesterday and he thinks it could possibly be the Flywheel as well.. since I have heard the noise I have been having some odd shifting feel, epsecially when its warm... so this is leading me towards clutch as well..

I ordered the clutch and flywheel from 4 seasons and chains from GAP.. just in case I have everything there... I would rather not do the chains if I dont have to since its booked @ 14hrs... lol but I would rather wait until I do cams and do the chains then!!

like my friend said dont mess with the chains unless we really have to!
upper chain seems to still have some good tension on it and there is really no abnormal noise in the chains when the oil cap is off.. plus I dropped a qt of oil and added in a qt of lucas.. man did it quite this engine down! figured if it was the chains the sound would have gotten a little quiter, but its still the same...

    oh and thanks!!

Problem is fixed... Flywheels was shot!! Clutch still looked brand new for 202k miles.. I was impressed with how good the clutch looked...

The bearing in the flywheel was toast! The flywheel has so much play in it.. it had side to side play and a ton of back and forth play, so much play I was able to rotate the top half of the flywheel almost a full 1/2" back and forth..

needless to say I put a Fourseason kit in and I am very happy! there is a good amount of chatter but its cool!
need to bleed the slave a little better to get the clutch pedal a tad stiffer..
but theres a ton of noises gone now (clunking, rattles, etc...) and the car seems to be much smoother..
