Old GT Hardtails,...

I recently picked up an `89 GT becouse I`ve always loved the triple triangle frames that they used back in the day: sorta` remminded me of the frames on Ducatis, which I adore.
Any other GT fans out there?

mine was stolen back in the day, and i've always missed it.
i replaced it with a similarly spec'd kona hardtail, bit I've always been on the lookout for another gt.
since I don't really have a need for a mountain bike anymore, I might just end up with a gt gtb/

Nice, like the handle bar set-up: you don`t see much variation in that area on the older GTs. I`ve actually been toying with the idea of a mustache bar like the one on my Bridgstone XO-2.

I have a 93 gt zaskar built up with modern xt components and a kooka crank. I ride every once in a while and even do some races on it. Here is a pic of it with my old xtr crank

I also have this gt passage frame and fork. I was thinking about using it as a cross bike but will probably sell it instead.

Mine is definitely a keeper. What I really want is one of the ti xingxangs but I cannot justify the price right now.

oh man i used to absolutely drool over the gt lineup when that triple triangle junk first came out. i would ride to all the bike shops in the area and just stay for hours looking at them. the best was bringing home the annual catalogs, and pouring through them until i drifted off to sleep. when you're 14 and the only source of income was cutting neighbor's grass, that's all you could do.

When I was in college International Bikes in Newton, MA had this exact frame hanging on the wall.



I drooled over it for the longest time. It was the only anodized frame I had ever seen. Then I bought a Klein I was scrolling through some of the catalogs posted above and I had forgotten about some of those crazy rear suspension designs people had come up with. I miss walking into a bike shop and only seeing trek and specialized.

Awesome thread. I had a '93 Borrego that I bought brand new in 9th grade. I sold it a year ago on Craigslist for $100. I should have kept it and made it cool again!

Catalogs were a cool find... I dont know why I never looked for them before. I wish I had my posters still from 96-98. They were about 3 feet tall and had the entire GT line up on them!

I still have a GT tempest,my father rides it. When my Univega Alpina was run over i upgraded to the XT/Lx group from that bike. It still has all the purple anodized parts!

Took a pic on a short ride today

Does anyone know what frame this might be? I know its a GT frame so I figured I would post it in here, also i know its at least an early 90's frame because I remember my dad would ride it when I was a kid.

There is one similar to that for sale at a local bike shop. Not sure how much it is but it is around an 18" frame.

My zaskar le will be getting a different fork this week. I have a decent 80mm rs duke fork that I am going to try out for a while. I also installed a set of larsen tt's last week.

TaintedRide it looks like a karakoram to me but I'm not a 100%

Right on. That one is cool because its a Reproduction of the ones from the 90's, made in America ( I believe ), and Has the disc brake tab on the rear.

Here is my 93 zaskar le with the new rs duke race fork. I just took it out on my 10 mile loop and the fork defiantly changes the feel. I am wondering if I should get some reproduction decals for the frame or just run what it has.

I stared at this picture for like 5 minutes trying to figure out why, despite being an awesome bike with awesome parts from an awesome era, it looked somehow "off" to me (other than the sweep of the bars.) Finally I figured it was the stack of spacers and that the fork must be shorter than a Judy at full extension, steepening up the geometry and making it look weird.

The gap lines on the fence probably aren't helping either.

Check it-

Not a knock in the least, I was just surprised I even noticed. Guess you just get an eye for it after a while.

To actually contribute to the thread, I'm out of the GT club now, I cracked my road frame's headtube over the winter and have since moved on.

When I bought the frame I couldn't find a gt fork so I picked up that gusset fork for a temporary solution. It does handle a lot better with the duke on there. I still want to pick up a gt road bike, I'm kicking myself for passing on one this winter.
