some of us are still around but too busy with family and work to spend any real time doing mk1 related things. People also grow up, at least in my case And yes, I'm also rocking a comfy mk5. You back in the area Mike? Last time I talked to you, you were moving to PA or something like that.

Not a noob but my GF would prob say I'm an asshat. I never really did any of the GTG crap when I owned a mki and mkii. Just because you have kids doesn't mean buying a new car. My b4 wagen hols the fam more comfortably than any newer vw, crappy suv's included.

There used to be quite a few real vw owners out here in the winchester area, all there is now are ex-japanese owners driving a bunch of mk4 mk5 mk6 crap with huge wheels

My buddy Zach and I have a MK1 project... VR is sitting in the engine bay. Been busy with other projects, just need to throw a radiator and wiring harness in it.

I moved on (backwards) when I parted with my MK1 and got an aircooled. Quite a project... but its fun!

My first dubs were a MK3 Jetta and an MK3 Golf Sport. Loved those pigs. Never got to do much with them though. Now I've got a 2010 MK6 and love it to death, but a MK3 VR build is on my wishlist.

If anyone is still veiwing this thread, I too (a daily mk1 driver) long for the good ol' days of people you can talk to about their dub and not get blown off by some kid in his girlfriends pants. I miss the old shows where you saw true elbow grease put into their car, and not a bunch of off shelf catalog stuff. And for the love of god enough with air ride and corvette wheels.

As I sit in this pharmacy waiting for my meds, I sit and stew over the kid in the mk5 I. passed on the way in. Hey jr. nice flat brimmed hat withe the stickers still on it, and those wheel whores stickers everywhere are a lovley touch. That must mean your hardcore into dubs. But when an older guy in a mk1 rolls past and throws up a "v" sign your too cool to send one back. On this memorial day weeken, you should learn your roots kiddo.

Agree! MKV is even worse then the MKIV crowd. I just stopped bothering with new kid cars when I'm in my old cars, not like the know what it is anyways.

Almost as bad as the corporate VW chic who asked what my favorite VW was... when I responded Ghia she was like whats that. Our whole group laughed. Shes like is that new?

I was at a gtg and I told someone I just sold my 67 ghia. He said what's that? I took the keys to his mk4. I belive as an old vw driver, I should be able to revoke your vw card. If you don't know where it all came from, go back to the honda crowd and their screaming rev limiters.

Yepp I remember well before the interwebs when I got to work on a splitty bus with my dad. Many decades later my son loves my Ghia and treasures every time he gets to help daddy. I dont think there a better way to pass down a tradition then a father son relationship with a vehicle. Soon my buddy will have his wedding and the front row parking will be VW's... yet another generation in the works!

Don't worry, its not just the regional forums flooded with MK5/6 owners, the corrado forum is starting too. My Bentley has more time under a hood than most of those noobs. Buy a real VW that breaks like a real car does and then figure out how to fix it. I'm a real glutton for punishment, doing a shell up rebuild of one corrado and just saved another one from the crusher that I'm beating around in a few times a week. Just left me on the side of the road and I couldn't even be mad at it, have to expect it or its not really like owning a Corrado haha

So for the past few months I've been attending a local gtg on thursdays by my house. At first it was ok, slow because it was still cold. But now its how do I put this.... crap. The people and their mk4's and up not only give little respect to the older stuff (and I quote "I never really liked the old aircooled stuff") but rarely show up to do so. And when they do its to form their little groups to talk bad on the other little groups. Now I thought we all got into vw's for the comon intrest and the greater good for all dub kind. But alas no, these new gtgs are crap. Young kids who don't even know what they're doing with the cars they have. I hope the dub craze passes like all other fads, so we can thin the herd and get back to the way things were and should be again. But if not I guess all us old guys can just stuff ourselves into our wives, girlfriends, little sisters, or even daughters pants (which ever is tightest) go buy a bagged mk4 that someone else did the work to, make sure that it has a "stanced" set of corvette wheels with stretch, and wait all year to douche it up at h20. Or we can just grab a beer hop in a warm bath, and open the biggest vein. The ladder being my choice.

    1) why do you think I got out of the VW scene for so long?!

    2) thanks dick, my corrado has stretch. You know, the one you have helped me with and seen multiple times?

Yes that green punishment of a car. I know there is some stretch, but there are no corvette wheels.
Wich reminds me of an argument with a a kid about how " sawblades and salad shooters" were not corvette wheels. He insisted they where aftermarket, but he couldn't explain the corvette emblem on the wheels. God I fear for our future when thes dullards are in charge.
