Anyone help me out here? Changed the w5w bulbs to canbus led ones and they work fine but are showing up an error on the MFD saying check number plate bulb. Ive got the same bulbs in the interior map lights and they are fine. Cheers in advance!

I don't believe the interior lights are monitored. You may have to try a different bulb.

I've tried a few different types of bulb even te ones that work fine on my 2011 scirocco. Is there anything in vagcom that I can adjust so I don't get the error on the dash?

Still happening even though I've 'unticked' the box for rear led number plate light monitoring. Anyone?

Reporting the same problem - Number Plate LED 2012 golf MKVI with Cent. Elect. firmware 0651and can confirm that unticking Bit 6 in Byte 23 dosent resolve the problem.

Anybody know is the solution might be within Byte 18? Has anybody upgraded to LED rear lamps without or with LED Number plate lamps for example?

    Any help appreciated!

Have the same thing with my car, it's an early 2012 GTI without LED license plate lights. I changed mine, tried to change coding in 09, still get the fault and warning light too.

VW changed the wiring on the later 2012 GTI (and other golfs from my investigating) so the wires that run to the rear license plate lights also power up the front side marker lights on the sides of the front bumper, bulb monitoring can still be run. On my early 2012 GTI, the rear license plate lights have there own wires just for themselves and the front side marker bulbs share a power with the marker bulbs in the headlights.

So, in other words, you either need to add resistors or change your wiring.

I noted that in the recent release 11.11.4 of VCDS that Byte 17, Bit 7 had been added "License Plate Lighting w/o Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) [LED Lighting]".

When I tick this bit I do not generate a lamp warning from OEM LED number plate lights. Nor do I observe any other adverse lighting affects.

    Anybody else tried this?
