I can't believe I am asking this but what can you tell me about the H3. I will probably sell my Jeep this summer and get something with a little more luxury and space and it seems like used H3's are priced about the same as Wrangler unlimiteds. Not sure I would get one but if I ever did it would have to be a stick and I would probably try to get leather. How well do they hold up? I know the I-5 is under powered but does it get decent miles? Any cool features?

I've seen one H3T in the wild in my entire life, and I got excited because I thought it was a concept or import from another country. That's all.

It's ridiculous and made for people who would do better to spend their compensation money on Enzyte.

I've always been an anti-gm-hummer guy and have felt the same way. The only reason I would even think about considering one is I need something bigger than my wrangler, 4 doors would be nice and and a stick is a must. I would love a Wrangler unlimited but they have held their value and if I would get a new one I'd have to give up my E46

The I5 is anemic at best. If you can swing the V8, go for it. I had a roomate in college with a H2, they're fun. Feel like tonka toys.

It would be too much and a 5-speed is a must which isn't available with the V8

A co-worker has one...12 mpg...she spends $100/week on gas. You might just as well set your wallet on fire.....................every monday.

Just buy a Subaru wagon and be done.

    Important keyword here -- "she".

The H3 is very much an insecure-but-pretending-to-be-confident chick's truck.

Honestly, the most anemic, bloated, un-enjoyable vehicle that I have ever had the displeasure of driving.

If you need something "bigger than a Wrangler", rent a Ford Econoline van when the need arises. U-Haul will you give you one for like $20/day.

    .... or get a trailer.

.... or if you need something for professional work, just about everything on the market is better suited than an H3.

I did some research on them last year when I was shopping. There were no major "red flags". I think there have been a few with off-roading issues (can't recall suspension?). But you're right, with the depreciation, it does make an interesting option against the Wrangler and FJs.

some are also known to need entire heads replaced, and i believe there is a bulletin about that some where out there. let me go dig it out

EDIT: lied about the bulletin, but i do see some that come in that are running rough and they require a new head.

My father leased one for three years in 2006. He saw 15-18mpg combined with the I5, thats driving like grand pa though. Also, dont take them off road, they just break. The big 33" tires and rear locker are too much for the sh*tty chevy colorado driveline.

Drove one with a stick from Buffalo to Rochester. Slow and unenjoyable to say the least. Also the shifts are really long and squishy. Jeep for me please.

Sound good with an aftermarket exhaust.

I work for a dealership and a H3 got traded in. It has been sitting on lot for 3 months. It personally feels cheap in my opinions.

The H3 uses a modified colorado frame and the same engine/trans. Similarities end there.

And lol at people posting mpgs. As if a wrangler does any better.

Good question, what else is there? The only comparable vehicles I can think of (remember a MANual is a must) are the JKU, X-terra and the FJ. Out of those the H3 is the cheapest and probably comes with the most options for the price.

There is a good reason why the H3 is the cheapest of those as well.

    Actually- they do ok.
And they were sold with a 5 speed manual (which always helps truck fuel economy).

Just get an x-terra. They look great stock or modified. Lots of goodies out there just like Jeeps. Can carry alot in & out on the roof. Rear passengers get a great view while riding along, and gets a whole 5 more mpg than the H3

Quite possibly. Heck, any of the Alphas.

But then again, you'd have to sit on an unused H3T Alpha for a loooooooooong time before you could see your money come back to you.

I'm not sure about all the hate in here. It's a handsome, good-sized SUV and should be reasonably reliable if you're not taking it off-road. The I5 isn't fast, but then again, neither is any of it's competition and these aren't fast SUVs like Cayennes. The mileage is basically the same as its competitors as well. Cheap-looking (read: durable) interiors are the norm in this segment, so that should be no surprise.

If the size of the H3 suits you best, I can't see any reason not to consider one.
