05 gti 1.8t 5 speed problems

I have seen a lot of people have this problem. Shifting from 1st to 2nd I heard a grinding and then couldn't shift into any gears. After a while some of the gears got to working. Now a month later all the years work fine except 1st. It will go into gear but it pops out it I accelerate to quickly. I've tried changing the fluid and adjusting the shift linkage but it was no help. I've been told by a former mechanic it is most likely a synchro and to try a short shifter or replace the tranny, but I've read on here that it could be the 1-2 slider a small plastic piece. Can anyone tell me the part number for this piece or where I find it on the car to check it. Or any other economical suggestions to try.
