2012 touareg tdi lux???

My wife and I just ordered a white tdi lux today. Picking the car up on Monday and I cant wait. My wide currently drives a 2011 328xi with all the bells and whistles. I just purchased a 2012 gli in december so now were a Volkswagen family! Does any else have a tdi and if so what are your real world mpg?

My TDI Sport averages 27 mpg. It gets 30 - 32 on the highway after it gets warmed up. In the winter, about 2 mpg lower.

That's pretty impressive considering the car weighs 6600 lbs. I think the tdi is the right choice because of its resale value down the road also compared to the vr6.

real world averaging 27 us mpg combined hand calculated. It keeps climbing, and I imagine once I get a few more years on it it will be averaging me 30 mpg overall. Hwy mpg is about 4-5 mpg higher.

Actually the vehicle weight is close to 5,000 lbs. GVW is about 6,300 lbs.

Very true yes one good thing is the weight really shouldn't affect mpg with the diesel compared to the vr6

Thanks. We went with the tdi strickly for gas mileage. It was tough convincing my wife to even listen to it because she thought it was gonna b so loud.

Hi, As Billiken mentioned, it appears that all US-market Touaregs with the RNS-850 nav/radio cannot play HD Radio in stereo. They can only play it in mono, and only the left channel information is present. My Touareg happens to be a Lux TDI so this HD Radio issue fits this thread.

On the RNS-850, go into Setup, Radio, and check the HD Radio box.

This video attempts to demonstrate the issue. I'm going to make another video soon with much better audio quality that will leave no doubt the RNS-850 has a problem. I encourage everyone who confirms their Touareg has this issue to report it to VW Customer CARE: 800-822-8987.

I would be very interested in seeing the VAG-COM data from your radio so I could compare it to mine. Maybe you have a different revision of the radio hardware or firmware, or the VCDS coding is different. Should be Module 56.

I do not have access at the moment to a vag-com. I plan to get one to re-program some items in the car. When I do I would be happy to share the scan info. Aside from that, I can report that my radio does, indeed, play HD FM in stereo. I must also say that the separation is often not so great. I believe this is due to the compression of the files ( or limitations in how HD is transmitted? or the strength of the signal?).

Beautiful truck, white is a great color but it also struck me how different the T3 looks in white vs. dark metallic colors
It's like a totally different vehicle

I can't speak for the VR6, but (towing) weight doesn't have as much impact on the TDI as does wind resistance. I occasionally tow a 6000# tractor on a 16' tandem trailer (flatbed with 14" sides). Mpg drops from 30 to 21 towing empty trailer at the speed limit. Surprisingly, there's only a further 2 mpg drop when the tractor is onboard. So from my perspective, wind resistance has more impact on the TDI fuel economy than does weight.

well for a true SUV you dont want big flashy rims! you benefit from more rubber and from not having a wheen that you will get pissed off if it gets nicked!

A lil update on my tdi. I noticed the last tank and a 1/2 of gas didn't get as good MPG. Only 24.2 a lot of city driving. Then the check engine light came on. I got the vag com out and scanned it to see if it was major. It had 3 codes all for the add blue injector pump and system. Took the car to VW and they said they had to have a specialist from VW tech come check out the car. After a day they ordered all new parts for injector. There apparently is something wrong w the 2012 tdi add blue system. They are making new parts to replace the factory installed 1s. All is fixed now and truck runs great.
