Non power Mk2 tie rods!
#1
Hey, has anyone here converted their A1 to late A2/B3 hub-carriers with 10.1" brakes?
BarelyLegal is converting to 100mm axles, and it's got me thinking about the conversion again.
One reason for this conversion is that the late A2/B3 bearings are huge compared to the A1 front wheel bearings.
Another good reason, is that 10.1" brakes were stock on 8V A3's, so it's easy to find, and cheaper to buy calipers.
100mm axles were stock on late-A2/B3's, so 100mm axles will fit.
The 8V A3 front rotors and brake pads are the same as the 16V Scirocco...
Check list:
Starting from the top, I would need A2/B3 Bilstein HD's with housings, and fit my A1 Neuspeed Sport springs with early urethane strut mounts to them.
Depending on the A2 HD shaft length, I'm thinking A2's are longer to begin with, so I might need A2 Bilstein Sport inserts with stock A2/B3 housings.
Verify ball joint and tie-rod fit...
Verify CV axle fit and spacing on the hub carrier. The point at which the axle bolts on, might be further away on the A2/B3's, but it should be fine,
since driver side A1 100mm azxles are the same as the A2/B3 driver side axle.
Thanks in advance for any info!
