engine sputtering

2003 gti vr6 75000 miles , Ran some errands got back in car started it engine started sputtering
drove the car home the check enging light was flashing and the car continued sputtering ,at higher rpms there was a slight vibration to the car ,parked it left it running the exhaust smelled a little different , then drove off again check engine light was no longer on , but car continued sputtering
any help is appreciated .

bad coil pack, or a couple are bad...
can you get it scanned? will give you an idea as too which pack went bad...

ok lets say its the coil pack ,do i have to replace all of them ? and where is the cheapest place to get them ?

I would consider @ least picking up a spare one or 2 to have with you... I have 2 spares in my trunk! lol
