very nice!
I have the same color and knew it had a bluish tone to it but I didn't know the black metallic pearl had that kind of purple-bluish tone with the right lighting.

Twin clutch DSG is not that bad. Went from a mk4 20th Gli 6 speed to this. Wife can't drive stick and we have a son on the way so it was the right decision to make. And I have driven a few new mk6 manuals and I am really not as impressed as the old O2M 6 speeds in the mk4 Gli

very nice, like the grill. how do you like it compared to the 2004.5 gli? i wanted one of those so bad for years, and was always told by people not to buy one. are they a similar driving experience to these gli's? i'm about to start plasti dipping my gli, as soon as i can find gunmetal matte plasti dip

I don't like the grill, stock one looks better in my opinion. FMIC looks kool but does it help in any way? Is your car tunned or do you have any other engine mods?

humm.. i will have to say totally night and day for driving experience. my 20th was a full stage 2 revo with every forge bolt-on i could get my hands on at the time and well was a great responsive car. you throw it into a corner and it will come out fighting. it ran 25-27lbs of boost and was a loud angry monster, but will quite down and eat away miles on a long trip.
the mk6 on the other hand is more civilized from what i have seen so far. it is quieter, and better equipped (autobahn edition) then the mk4. you almost loose that sort of drivers feel you are used to in the older mk4s. never the less it is very well balanced and from stock you can chuck it into a corner an know it will bounce back. with the Koni FSDs and H&R springs it does have a great ride to it, reminds me more of my wife's mk6 gti then anything else, but still with the extra length and weight over a mk6 gti it still does thing a lot smoother and composed then its hatch back counterparts.
2 friends have driven the car both stock and "modified" (as of what is done so far) and strangely they both agree that this is a better feeling car all around. both have owned VW mk5 .:R32s and one owns a new Golf R. they compare it to more of that kind of all wheel drive feel when it comes to the balance and weight distribution of the car. both loved my old mk4 gli and always had fun going for spirited rides, but this just seems more practical.
as modifications go on i will keep everyone up to date on what changes in characteristics and feel for the car.![]()

i wanted to do something different then the regular gli. as for the fmic i feel it does help, i do notice an increase in throttle response and and overall performance. the car does get better fuel mileage as it is getting cooler air and making for better efficiency. sure an s3 intercooler would be best as it offers 33% more efficiency over stock fmics, but this was (and will be) a simple direct bolt-on and to be honest it looks great as well. the kit will be basically a fmic, 4 bolts to hold it, and 2 hoses with clamps. super easy install in no time at all. the s3 takes longer and will require you to pull the a/c and radiator out of the way to replace it.
as for other mods:
no tune as of yet (waiting for revo stg 2 and dsg software)
i do have a forge dv spacer installed
and my 42 draft design 3" catless downpipe does give me noticeable added torque
soon to come:
custom 3" cat back exhaust
forge (prototype) twin-take
full set of BSH mounts
forge oil catch can
Cooler Mist stg 2 water-meth kit
Revo stg 2 ecu software
Revo stg 2 dsg software

sweet. good to know. i love mine, have driven lots of cars, and owned a good number, but this by far takes the cake for a practical all around-er. great mpg and pretty quick, and i agree with the awd feel, it feels real similar to the old bi turbo s4's, imo, love the feel. my only complaint, is mine's frost silver, and these conti's leave a nice thick black residue on all sides from the curves i fly around on my daily commute![]()

that is dead on with the old S4 Bi-turbo feel!!!It is dead accurate on tracking in and out of corners and there is more then enough power to play with (but can always use more
)
My black magic pearl is always fun to clean, not knowing that "black wax" ever existed i was having fun battling the the water spots for the first few weeks of owning it.

Do you have yellow bulbs in your fogs as well or is it just the yellow laminx?
#29
I started off with just the laminx and stock bulbs and found that it was just too dim... a friend had a set of amber bulbs up for grabs and well they made a world of difference. at night on a dark highway almost everything from bumper to 75 ft or so in a 180 degree arc is bright yellow!! great look for passers by and well the safety measure is greatly increased as well.![]()

My origional plan was for a 2012 Shadow Blue GTI. There were plenty of parts on the market and going from a tuned MK4 to something stock wouldn't sit well with me that long. I was actually on a test drive of my GTI that came in when I walked by the GLI Autobahn I bought. Something about having $4000 in options for $2000 less just sat better with me. At first I was not thrilled about how big the car was or how there was nothin for it on the market. I figured a TSI motor is a TSI so parts should fit. Nope!! So then the long plan of finding what fits and what needs to be adapted or modified so we can get it to work started and now here we are. Two months and 3800 miles later the car is almost done. I am only doing this build thread to what I would consider a "very spirited" daily driver and only going to stage 2 on most parts. I love the response and feel one gets from a properly engineered car. If it can be driven from Florida to Maryland for a show, haul ass all weekend, then cruise back home in one piece than that is what I am looking for in a car. As it sits I still get 33 mpg in a long trip so I am happy.
