I have installled 6 LED bulbs on the trunk. (120 degrees of light each bulbs)
3 bulb in the metal frame at the top at the very end of the trunk and also 3 at the metal frame by the grocey hooks..
I ordered them in www.superbrightleds.com.
Direct link..
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...cs%2Fld1-x.htm
They cost $1.99 a piece. I ordered the "natural white" color bulb.
I took the power from the existing light that the trunk has. (Also previously installed a LED bulb)
The pictures say a lot.
Any question let me know.

Nice! Cheap but useful mod. I noticed the poor lighting last weekend when I was on a trip.

Is that a grocery bag hook on the right side/passenger side as well?
How did you install that, I didnt see any spots on mine???
#10
Just install it where you want.. I did a hole with a drill on the metal sheet and out its screw and voila..
You can even install one more in the middle..
I will post a better picture with hooks..
Here my car pics where you can see the hooks..

Very useful mod! More pictures! I want to see how you mounted those bad boys in the roof. Will they stay put when they inevitably get bumped by luggage/equipment?

My next project will be to installed some of these LED bulbs in the engine area.
I hate this car does not come with light in that area.
All my previous Touareg have it and love to have it.
Maybe I will install another type of LED that come encasulated or more protective for wear, heat and elements..
In the same website I bought the one for the trunk has a great ones for the engine area.

do you have pics of the final wiring? like where it connects to the car's wiring? I'm not sure how these LEDs connect to it. Are those all attached with tape? Thanks!

I'm very interested how you wired this as well. I'm placing the order now for the lights. This is an awesome and inexpensive mod.
Did you hook one wire set to the stock light wiring and then branch the other lights from each other, or just wired all six to the original light source?
#26
I will make the write up how to weld the wire together using a welder and final connection to the OEM lamp in the back right side.

Kchoro, that would be great. I already have purchased the lights and they have been sitting in my trunk till I figured how to tackle.
Waiting patiently!

OK HERE THEY ARE..
The LEDs only need a 12VDC power supply. The polarity needs to be correct, so make sure the black cable goes to (-) and red with (+).
I took the power from the existing trunk light. The current draw is these LED is so small that I don’t think it is going to be an issue. This way I didn’t have to install a switch to turn on the LEDs when the trunk is opened.
The trunk light pops out and it is very easy to do. You will see a blue with brown cable, which is the (-) and a Red with blue, which is (+) [I highly recommend you double check on this to make sure]
I placed 3 LEDs in the back of the trunk, and 3 in the front. I used 3M heavy duty double sided tape to mount them, and have worked well so far. Route the cables the best you can, and hide it from plain view as much as you can or like.
What I did is that I spliced the 3 LEDs in the back together and extended the cable so that it will be long enough to get to the trunk light. I did the same for the 3 in the front, and then I spliced everything to the OEM wiring
In summary is very simple. Just splice everything using the best route you can, and make sure all the (-)s and (+)s are spliced together.
In my case I soldered all the splices and used heat shrink tube to re-insulate the cables.
If this does not make sense, don’t do it or get help !![]()

I don't think the SE models come with the stock truck light that you are referring to. Could you take a picture of the stock light? I want to make sure I have the same wiring so I can tap into them. The only light on the SE is on the DEF tank side of the car behind the tail light. Thanks.
#32
Awesome! Thanks. What model of LED bulb did you use to replace the OEM bulb. I sent an email to the superbrightleds.com indicating which bulb I was replacing, but the one they sent is too large in girth to slide all the way into the connector. I was able to force it far enough to make a connection and it lights up, but my guess is that once I go over a bump or just normal road vibrations will cause it to move enough to lose connection.

I'm pretty sure that's the light he is referring to. That's the only light I have on my TDI SEL as well. Just tap into the wiring on that light to feed all the LEDs.

Yes I'm referring to that light on the passenger side behind the tail light right there close to the ad blue tank on the TDI. I think all trims have it...
Here a pic of the light (it shows the connection of the new wire o feed the new 6 LED bulbs.)
For the LED bulb for trunk light I used this bulb. Also same ones for 4 in the doors, 2 in the footwell, 1 in the glove compartment..
