I originally tested the led's by inserting the two led wires to their respective counterparts through the oem trunk lamp on passenger rear. Once contact was made the led lit up. That's where the success ends.

So I thought I could crimp off the plastic wire cover exposing the wire and simply touch the two wires as I did before and see the led's light up?? No dice. I then thought touched a piece of metal incase it needed to be grounded and still not lighting up.

Check out the pics below. They show how I was connecting and where that was in the trunk.
      Any help is appreciated.

ps apologize for lousy uploads I just learned how to do for 1st time.

OMG ! Buddy from that I've seen you are taking the power from the 3rd stop tail light wires !
Your pictures showing that, also I've confirmed on my car that solid brown cable belong to the 3rd stop.
You need to take the power from the OEM trunk lightbulb wires no from the 3rd stop wires.
I think if you press your brake pedal you will get power on those wires and will be able to light up the LED but only will work when pressing the brake pedal...

Make the connection again taking the power from the OEM trunk light wires as shown in my pics

      So,

coffeemade - did you ever plan on posting pics?

Daddydiesel - did you ever get the issue completely sorted or what?

Kchorro - if I can get away from the family for a few hours, going to try this mod this weekend.
      Thanks for all the help!

I can't find any of those exact T10 LED trunk light replacements on Ebay. That seller is only selling the blue ones as you've mentioned. Additional searches on Ebay yielded one potential seller, interestingly enough, his 194-501 T10 LEDs have this cool little plug adapters, but the actual led plate is too big :-/

      Kchorro, others completing this mod

      Silly question

Did you unplug the battery when doing this mod, just keep the trunk switch closed, or what? I keep hearing horror stories periodically about errors if you completely unplug the battery. I read a good chunk of the user manual last night and after reading up on how to initialize various features (auto close, pinch protection, key fobs for KESSY, push button start, and so on) I'm slightly paranoid about killing the battery connection completely for this relatively minor work. Thoughts on how you did it appreciated! Thanks.

No.......Im just driving around with them loose in my trunk hoping they get the urge to mate with the trunk light

So far that hasn't worked as I drove around the past 2 weeks.

There still there where I left them.
      They just lie there.
Staring at me when I open the trunk.
I think I even heard them mocking me.

Maybe someday Ill finish. I even left all the tools, wire cutter, electrical tape, crimper.

I just felt so defeated after Kchorro pointed out my "minor" error that I haven't got the courage, or initiative...... kindda like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh...

Did you disconnect the battery when doing this mod, mechanically keep the switch closed via some other method, or something else?

      Thanks.

I wired up all the LEDs and then I connected the wires to the leads of the trunk light. No issue at all and so easy.

You didn't do a DIY?!!!!! I still want to see how you guys connect to the lead wire in the trunk.

Ok yeah we didn't do a DIY, but dude this is as simple as plugging in power to wall. Obtain some extra wire and connect all red together and all black together and then in the use a multimetter to determine which is the power wire from the trunk light. I shaved a little of the plastic from the wire and I twisted the cables on the respective side. I then used some electric tape to hold it in place.

I will take some photos , just for you

haha, ok, that sounds easier now. I thought soldering was involved. I can do electric tape.

And this is why I didn't post a picture of the wiring....

Because you really can't see much. To sum up my wiring I connected the three rear led to each other and then the 3 front leds to each other (Red to red and Black to black) then I ran those wires to the trunk light and just before the trunk light I connected the 2 sets of wires so all 6 LEDs are connected to 1 red wire and 1 black wire and then using a voltmeter I figured out which one was hot and I connected red to it and then black to the one that is not hot. All done. It's so simple you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner. I wish I had ordered more LEDs because they are really bright and work for so many applications.....maybe later for now I like this....

      I finally installed yesterday.

I only installed 3 lights instead of the recommended 6 (less work). I positioned them at alternating angles.

When I opened my trunk later that night I was pleasantly surprised to see my trunk fully lighted like pics in this post.

So, for those of you that plan on doing but have not done as of yet; 3 will do the trick and fully light the entire trunk!

Thank you for taking the time to take a pic and explain. I think it is easier than I was thinking. I will definitely give this a try. Thanks OP! and Coffeemade!

Thanks for the write-up! I bought the lights from superbrightleds and they shipped super fast. I bought the warm white color as I do not plan on changing interior bulbs out to LEDs at this time.

I have yet to wire the 6 lights in the trunk, but I did wire 2 lights in the cabin; one in the driver's footwell and one in the passenger footwell. Since I have an SE without the "ambient light package" they skipped adding the footwell lights. It was an easy install. I just tapped off the dome light and ran the wires down the A pillar. Stuck one LED right were the light would have been on each side. Provides more than enough light.

Once again, your write up and source reference really helped...THANKS!
