I've been looking in my market (Dallas Texas) for about a month, pretty solidly. I was keeping an eye on ebay, and autotrader to get a good idea. I noted that one I had my eye on that was selling for 19.5k with half again as many miles as yours, I would think that you could send your price up around 22k, especially with full maintenence preformed and documented.
All that said, I think the current cost of fuel and the Phaeton's initial lack of popularity, has underpriced these on the market. I think the trick is to get someone to experience it and let the car close the deal for you!
Best Regards,
Drew

Drew-Thanks for the feedback-really do want to get rid of the car quickly-bought the new 2013 Lexus GS on an impulse buy and wife wants the extra car out of the drive way-I think it's a pretty good deal with all the extras-will miss this car but wanted an update to newer technology-thanks again

Only set back I see is that most folks don't have $20,000 cash sitting around to buy an 8 year old vehicle.
Most would have to finance and most lenders will not loan more than book value.
Kind of in the same boat right now. Yes it is possible to get sold but could take some time IMO.
Best is luck,
Tully

Tully-thanks for the insight-may need to drop the price but hope a prospective buyer sees the value in the car.....

Good looking Phaeton.
What is the next major service appointment after the 50k mark? The dreaded 80k?
#11
I think you are correct-I only put on about 10K a year so the pain would be delayed by at least 2 years.....![]()

Delayed only at fairly high risk. Timing belt replacement is not only mileage based but it is also time dependent. A 2004 model is probably due for this service. I have a 2005 V8 Touareg with 42k miles and my VW tech recommended it SOON. I know they make their living off such stuff but I agree that it is time to begin seriously thinking about replacing the timing belt.
I've heard many reports that the timing belt on the VW 4.2L V8 is very robust and will last considerably beyond the VW recommendation. Despite that probably being true, if one is wrong, a very expensive engine is ruined and an 8 year old car is probably scrap.
I don't want to rain on a sale for your very nice Phaeton. If I were looking, I'd buy yours but would fairly quickly do the timing belt, water pump, etc. Despite the expense, a Phaeton, like yours, with relatively low miles, a warranty, and very good condition would be worth every penny.

I bought mine 1 year ago for 19500 with similar features, no warranty. It was important to me, but not critical, that I got this from the original purchaser. I do not recall noting if you are the original owner or not.
Anyone who knows what a Phaeton is, and wants one, should JUMP at yours. Lower milage Phaetons are just more rare and intrinsically worth more.
Of course, the price is always strange. If you go to AUTOTRADER.COM you can see around 70 or so USA Phaetons for sale, and get some idea about pricing, features, colors, etc.
If you do list it anywhere, start with the OPTIONS, such as the Audio and Comfort and Cold Package. Can't tell you how frustrating it is as a potential buyer in the know, how often these are buried, if listed at all. Whereas, "ON STAR" is always listed, which is stupid, as it doesn't work.
Oh, and please list if you are the original owner or 2nd, etc. and emphasize factory VW service always...(this was important to me, anyway...)
Your price is perfect, and should get immediate results from a true Phaeton Phanatic, such as myself. BEST OF LUCK selling.

Thanks all-I was second owner-got her in 2006 with 18K miles-have had all work done at the local VW dealer and has been meticulously mantained-they did check the belt, etc at the last check and said everything was fine but appreciate the comments on time vs mileage-good to know we all care about our cars so much-rare to see that passion and love these fdays-I think I will leave the price as is and see how it goes-my mom is actually interested in the car.......thanks again, all!!Much appreciated!!![]()

I bought my 2004 W12 5-seat premiere, all options, 50K miles, mint interior/exterior for only $17.7 in February, so a V8 for $19 today is way overpriced IMHO. I'd see it $12-$15
#17
Thanks-did it also include an extended warranty?
#18
Based on comments for the board-I have reduced the price to $18,950 with hopes of attracting an interested buyer-thanks for the input and comments
#19
Hello,
Do you still have the car available?
Kind regards,
Steven

Detailed information can be good but if I were writing an ad to sell my '04 Phaeton (mine just turned 60K and is fully loaded and maintained like yours) to the general public and not members of this site I would modify your ad text a bit. The potential buyer for one of these remarkable cars doesn't typically stumble upon one - they are looking to buy one. They know exactly what they are looking for and at. They will also know that your car is not a luxury optioned Passat. Most will have a pretty good idea of what they'll need to pay to own a perfect low mileage Phaeton like yours. When a savvy Phaeton buyer, not the tire kickers, contacts you let them ask you for all the fine details. With that said, my ad would look something like this.
Available, an exceptionally well maintained and fully optioned low mileage 2004 Black with Beige interior VW Phaeton V-8. This two owner car has been dealer maintained for all of its 54,500 miles and is covered by VW's Real Driver Platinum warranty until December 2013. It needs absolutely nothing. All service records from new are available. This Phaeton is being offered at the market correct price of $________. Interested buyers may contact seller for complete details.
If you have the original VW window sticker for your Phaeton volunteer to email a copy of it to a serious buyer. Good luck with the sale and I hope you get your very fair asking price.
The question that begs to be asked - what will replace your Phaeton?
