Rotel? is this worth it?
I was offered a Rotel set up and wanted to see what the HT forum had to say. This stuff is pretty old so I am not sure what it's worth.
RSP-1068 pre- amp
RT-1080 tuner
RB-1050 2 channel power amp
RB-985 mkII 5 channel amp
random NAD DVD player.
I have paradigm phantoms and a bose center, will there be a speaker upgrade?
I was told $200 for all

YES! ABSOLUTELY!
Used/outdated high-end components are GREAT deals, as the internals/amplifiers/switch-gear/DAC's, etc) are all of much higher quality, only lacking the newest/latest/greatest processing formats or fewer ins/outs of the newest hdmi 1.? format.
Rotel components will consistently outperform most consumer-recognizable names (Sony, Panasonic, Bose, etc) for years to come. If you can live without the newest processing format, or multiple ins/outs of the latest connection type, components like this are an investment. In most cases, you'll be happily using these components for years after the newest/latest/greatest Best Buy deals have been thrown away.
Your week link is currently your speakers. The Paradigms are great value for money, but they wont exploit everything your Rotel equipment is capable of. Consider upgrading. Ditch the Bose.
Think of speakers like the tires on your car: they are the most important component of any audio system or vehicle, because they are the very last thing presenting all the performance potential to the listener (or the road). The best gear is ruined by crappy speakers (tires), but good speakers (tires) can make a minivan (crappy equipment) perform much better than expected.

Absolutely worth $200, just for the amplifiers alone. The processor is outdated, but would be fine for 2-channel duty. The DVD player is decent, and likely a better CD player than anything else you own if you listen to music via CD.

Personally I love Rotel for the sound AND the aesthetics. That being said, my last job was inventory control for a high end installer, and I can't begin to tell you how often their stuff fails. Although not as good sounding perhaps, my vote is with INTEGRA for reliability and features. If you're going to get one just protect yourself! Best of luck!

Wow 200 bucks for allllll that?
Please check to be sure everything works since Rotel can be tempermental.
It looks like someone just wants to dump the stuff.
If everything works you're going to love it..

I bought that Rotel preamp off Ebay several years ago for $350 or $400. Most auctions were ending in the $500 range, I watched for a while.
I don't really watch movies all that much, so I care nothing about the latest surround formats, but it sounds fine to me for 5.1 TV or the occasional movie or video game.
I haven't had any problems so far. Occasionally it weirds out and I have to flip the back panel power switch on and off to reset it but other than that it's been solid.
You think I ain't worth a dollar, but I feel like a millionaire.

buy that in a heartbeat. I have that 2 channel amp and paid around $250-300 used.
