Probably just an aberration (you hope). With luck, this will be the only problem you have with your new Passat (for your sake, and VW's).
I only have 2200 miles on my new 2012 Passat SE V6 and the check engine light came on the other morning. I took it in to the dealer and they found codes P0442 (EVAP Emission Control System Small Leak Detected) and P0456 (EVAP Emission Control System Very Small Leak Detected). The tech says on the work order that he removed and tested the EVAP Purge Valve with a vacuum pump and the valve would not hold a vacuum. The dealer replaced the EVAP Purge Valve under warranty. They say this is the first 2012 passat V6 they've seen with this issue. Should I be worried? Any one see this yet? I've only had the car for 4 weeks.

I've had a 2010 GTi for 2.5 years and I got the exact same codes and it was the n80 Purge valve. I doubt the issue is common, and since I've only had this issue one I'm pretty impressed. I wouldn't worry about it, it's a minor problem and the v6 should be less issues than 2.0 T since there are no turbo gadgets.
I just got a CEL and code P0456 (EVAP Emission Control System Very Small Leak Detected) this evening. My car is a 2012 2.5l and has 10400 miles on it. I will take it to the dealer, but I wonder if it could be the gas cap or if it could actually be a bad valve like the OP? Do these cars have a "gas cap light" like some models have? I checked the cap and made sure it was tight.
