One more thing. The speaker wires seem to be terminated into some sort of plug and then inserted into the post. Is this more over the top-ness or does that really make a difference.

Yes, that is a bridge.

There are two binding posts so the speaker could be "bi-amped" (which is probably pointless) or "bi-wired" (which is certainly pointless). I will leave you to Google if you care to look those terms up.

It makes no difference from a sound quality perspective, it just makes it easier to disconnect the wiring should you need to.

I ended up just inserting the raw wire into the binding posts as the speakers will not move much.
