    Hi

My Haldex system were making low drag noises when driving slowly on turns.
    ( parking ,etc )
I was told it is natural and it is a result of rear/front power differences.
anyway, I decided to replace Haldex filter and oil.
I made an order last week - package hasn't arrived yet.

    Now comes the sad story
I was driving real hard on Saturday during a VAG trip.
Right after the trip everything was fine.

On Sunday morning, I started the car and put to reverse.
The Haldex was making a very very loud terrible dragging noise which shakes the whole car.
    Especially on turns.

I did not continue driving with Haldex since then.
I pulled out fuse #31 - Haldex is disabled now and noises are gone.
( I did try to enable it again after 24h , but still the same noise )
VAG-COM shows no errors except it cannot communicate with controller since I pulled the fuse.

    so basically my questions are:
How bad do you think I'm screwed?
Did anyone ever encountered such problem after a strong driving session ?
Could it be the fact that filter and oil when never replaced (afaik) and now
the Haldex is ruined and will have to be replaced ?
If so, what are the chances for a mechanic to open-up the Haldex coupling and fix it ?!

    Thanks!

Yep, I had the "same" with my TT 2001...

In my case, one of the breathing hoses had loosened and dragged on the ground while driving. When breathing the hose sucked up snow/water from the road like a kid using a straw a hot summer day (it was during the winter of course with lots of rain and snow). Water in oil is not a good mix causing all slipping discs in the Haldex coupling to fail.
My case is unusual, the breathing pipe should not fall off like that, but never changeing the oil is not good at all and will eventually have the same effect.
I would go for oil and filter change (once or twice) to see if it is enough. With luck, the clutch discs are not toasted yet. With bad luck you need to change them.
It is possible for a mechanic to open the Haldex and change them, but finding a complete unit might be cheaper.

For me it was easier/cheaper to buy a rear axle with Haldex attached from a crashed car. I got one off a MkIV R32 as they are the same as Mk1 TT 2001.

hey Mattee thanks for your response
I will be back home only next week to attend this matter.
sadly, there aren't as many 4motion vw's here and R32 was never sold here as well (israel),
so it will be quite difficult for me to find a used Haldex/rear axe unit.
anyway, hopes for the best -
will keep posting with the outcome
