casual 12 mile ride each way to work? no problem at all. If you're doing serious, aggressive riding twice a day I'd say no deal.

I am going to start doing a half commute a couple times a week because I used to commute when I lived down south and miss it dearly. I am still riding a converted rigid C-Dale with street tires, so its not ideal but I thought the idea of picking up some good clothing would be nice and some bibs would hopefully reduce my butt numbness/discomfort.
That being said; since I am commuting and will be doing 12.5miles each way is it okay to take off the bibs when I get to work and put them back on later to ride home? I have read a few things about not wearing them twice without washing them due to butt funk and what not. I am a clean person but obviously we all use the bathroom so is the chamois going to be an issue?
Any help to a clothing newb would be appreciated!

I ride 18 miles each way and have never had a problem rewearing the same shorts in the 7 years I've been doing it. I'd venture to say as long as you're not a complete dirty hippy you'll be A-OK.![]()

For short rides like that and with a short time between wearings, you should be just fine. If you're super concerned, just get some DZ Nuts chamois cream and throw it on before the ride home so it can be all antifungal and such.

it wont be an issue even if you throw in some spirited riding on the way in and home. just make sure you have a place to hang them as putting on wet clothing is the pits. I also dont see a need in chamois cream at all since your commutes only going to be ~25mi RT, just find a saddle that works for you.

If there's a place to hang them outside, and get some sunshine on them, go that way.
I used to commute 14 miles each way and just hang my shorts up. Never an issue...
... you're not a hipster. But you definitely have hipster tendencies. Stay vigilant... like diabetes, you can manage this.

Put them on a dry towel, and slowly roll it to get rid of as much moisture as you can. Then hang it somewhere if your office allows that. Should be enough for the stuff to get bone dry after 8 hours at work.
Well, that's what I do anyway.

What is the deal with Chamois cream? I haven't used it ever and I've many 100+ mile rides... Maybe this is why you are getting these infections. Although, I usually take 2-3 showers a day when I am in Tri mode![]()

wear bibs twice in the same day? Hells ya. Mine are presently marinading, uh I mean drying out, on the coat hook in my office. It keeps the student visits infrequent and short
Seriously: I try to ride easy on the way to work (it is mostly down hill). They are then pretty fresh for the ride home. Except on days like todya where i get to work and realize that my keys (including U lock) are at home. Double commute this morning FTW.
If I'm on a road trip, or run out of bibs/shorts before my wife gets around to the laundry I will wash them in the shower. Works great.
About Chamois cream: Why would you want to put cream on a mountain goat? I've used in on long rides to ease chafing ...never even considered its antimicrobial properties.

Thanks for the tips; I have a locker at work so I can get them hung up no problem and I will just take it easy on the way in. I am going to do the ride next saturday to see what I am up against so I guess that will give me a better idea.
That being said I picked up some Craft bibs off of Chainlove just now for 55% off; can't argue with that.

You'll be fine. Did it for a while when I commuted to the shop I worked at. 14 miles each way. Usually a pretty mellow ride in but in the summer you'd still sweat a good bit. Let them air dry all day and I never had a problem.
