Having an issue that I have noticed that sometimes my fuel pump does not buzz when it comes on and I suspect that my ignition switch may be going bad since I replaced the pump about 2 years ago and this was happening back then as well.

    Found this workstep

I have looked at several other threads and people mention drilling to take the key out am I correct that I wont have to do this since I only want to replace the ignition switch ?

I just replaced the little white plastic switch piece in my rocco about 2 weeks ago. I did not have to drill anything!!! I would say Timbo's step by step, up until the drilling, is pretty straight forward. You will not have to drill anything to replace just the switch!!! Good luck

If you're not replacing the key and tumbler, then no, there is no need for any drilling. Just take off the steering wheel, disconnect and remove the turn signal and wiper switches, then the little plastic sleeve on the column. After that all you need to do disconnect the ignition switch, put the key in the ignition and turn it to unlock the column, then once the 6mm allen head bolt is removed the whole lock assembly will come right off, exposing the little phillips head screw that holds the switch in place. And now for my favorite line from the Bentley manual, "installation is reverse of removal"

do yourself a favor and buy a new switch and try it a few days to see if it is the switch. you can unplug the switch without taking anything apart and just turn it with screwdriver to start the car. Just make sure you also turn the key as well so the steering column doesn't lock when you drive off.

That would defeat the fun of taking everything apart again ... lol ..

Thanks all plan to do this tomorow as soon as I get home from work(hopefully things at work will be slow enough to finish my homework). I also found this workstep as well which looks like its closer to what I need.

Ignition replaced and same exists seems like car is not getting fire. Engine still turns but wont start.

Checked connections and the plug that comes off the side of the distributor felt loose. I just so happened to have another distributor from when I first got the car was having shutoff issues. Plug on "spare" was firm so I decided to change it out the one on the car. The next thing I noticed is that when I took off the cap it had oil on the inside and the inside of the distributor was loaded with oil. As you can see the side plug is not setting straight and was loose. and on top of

Changed out entire distributor and same issue but I did forget to notice which way rotor was pointing when I took it out, since I have homework to finish and need to charge the battery I am calling it a night and will take a look at it after work tomorrow.

I just picked one of these up to change out when I'm feeling frisky. Sounds like yours is toast.
