Then get people to PAY YOU to come on your boat with their guns in hopes of the chance to bag a pirate..

This seems win win to me.

I used to work part-time at an independent Land Rover shop, and the owner was telling me about one of his customers who were the outdoorsy adventure family types (18yr old daughter drove a D90 that we were working on).

Every summer they would vacation in South America and sail their boat back to the states. Apparently there is an active pirate group in the area (who knew?). One year they were being followed by a boat, so the dad goes below and pulls out some kind of drum fed, automatic shotgun. He fires a few rounds in to the water ahead of the pursuing boat, and they veer off and head elsewhere. Or so I was told.

I've seen some private security contractors that just want a DD-214, and some level of fitness. Of course certain things like AB/AS qualified help, as well as some other training, but they don't seem to mind hiring people with just a DD-214.

Ironically I watched the Somali Pilot ordeal on the Military Channel a few minutes ago. Insanity that the three Navy Seals got off 3 simultaneous headshots from a carrier to a bobbing lifeboat.

Anyways the whole time I was thinking that noone on the ship had a gun. In constant threat of hijacking and not one person has a gun on them. This ship does it right.

I'm down. Regarding doing Maritime Security --- military contractors are like any other business, some good, some bad - some high speed, some low speed. Military experience would probably be enough for a gig like this.
