Thread: Hikes around Gatlinburg

  1. 04-11-2012 04:08 PM #1
What are some good hikes around Gatlinburg, TN? (preferably summit hikes, or ones that have a great view).

Also, would like to keep the total distance to 8 miles or less round trip, but 10 miles is fine. Our group is mostly in good shape, so strenuous is not big deal, but distance is.

As log as it's within a 25 mile radius of Gatlinburg, it'll be fine. We're going to Clingman's dome one day, and are doing a hike there -not sure of the name.

    Thanks!

The best summit hikes will be around 8-12 miles, maybe a bit further. There just aren't any shortcuts from the nearest parking lots. I've got 25+ day hikes under my belt in the GSM park, mostly 5-10 milers R/T - there are tons of good hikes in that park. Let google be your friend - lots of good info on all the trails. FWIW...I was there hiking the weekend of all the major storms/tornados in early March and several trails are closed due to fallen trees, major water runoff damage, etc. If you want to get in a shorter hike with a nice view but still a good cardio workout, Chimney Tops.
