MMI said add a quart of oil this morning, just hit 10K miles, so I had a new engine at about 3800, had a service at I think 6K after I broke in the new engine, so thats 4K miles/quart seems pretty excessive. I had heard that the 3.0T drinks oil but that seems excessive. Maybe this will improve over time ?

Also the dealership gave me Audi branded Mobil 1 is there anything special about it, Audi formulation or is it just regular Mobil 1 that I could buy anywhere ...

Seems like a lot. I have 7k miles on mine. Bought brand new with 30miles on it and never had to add a drop so far. What did the dealership say about that?

Dealer said basically that I shouldn't worry about it, but if it continues I should bring it in and they would record oil consumption.

I'm thinking I might be experiencing an extended bedding in period because the new engine would have been filled with the regular synthetic by the dealer instead of the oil type from the factory. I read somewhere that a different oil would be used for initial fill to encourage break in. But since I just read that on a forum I can't verify the truth of that statement unless any Audi techs know.

All I know is that I'm going to keep an eye on the levels and if it continues I'll get the dealer to record it. Since its my second engine I'm paranoid about any issue. Car is stock and 90% of my driving cycle is freeway, there is no oil on the garage floor so its using it rather than leaking it.

Deff keep an eye on it. It could be that it was not completely filled when they did the first oil change... etc. A quart of oil is quite a lot to burn through though so just keep an eye on it. I know that these engines are known to consume some oil - some more than others so all you can do is just keep an eye on it and document every time you have to top of off etc.

Check out your overnight parking spot, any leaks?

If you haven't already invested in a dipstick, it might be a worthwhile investment. At least you can discern the actual oil level instead of relying solely on an electronic sensor to measure oil quantity. ECS has them (although appear to be backordered at the moment ...
