Fuel gauge is:
All the way to the right Full
Half way in the middle Half Full
On the mark or at the red mark 2.5 gallons remain.
Empty is when the car sputters to a stop and the gauge is all the way to the left.
There is no reserve tank.
Grounds, Grounds, Grounds Replace them things.
Divorces, Great Coffee, and Electrics, all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my grounds ?

I'm usually about halfway through my miles-per-tank distance when the needle is straight up and down. ymmv.

My experience with MkI fuel gauges: carburated cars w/ mechanical fuel pump, tank is empty & car stops when needle is about 2mm past the end of the red zone; GTI/K-jetronic with electric fuel pump, cars stop when the needle is about 1mm BEFORE the end of the red zone, was a bad surprise when upgrading from 50PS to 110PS, everything else was quite pleasant![]()
