Thread: Rocker arm fell off shaft

  1. 04-12-2012 08:07 PM #1
I put my car into 2nd gear instead of 4th by mistake while doing the 1/4mile. According to VAG-COM the engine rpm reached 8450. After pulling over, I heard a clicking sound come from the head. We pulled the valve cover and found one of the rocker arms laying in the head. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you repair it? The camshaft looked fine. Is it necessary to remove the cams to put the arm back on?

    How the? What the??

You had to have forced it into 2nd...there's no way it'll just accidentally slip it into 2nd from redline in 3rd...

I'd do a little more looking around...if it hit 8450 rpm, I doubt it's going to be as easy as just re-attaching something and calling it a day...

Is that like buying a pant at the Gap? You must be the person to go to when I'm looking for a scissor.

2008 2.0t fsi. Yep, it has rocker arms. After doing a google source I found out that it's a common problem at high rpm. It can be prevented by using lifter shims. I really don't want to remove the cams. That seems to be the only fix. The cam lobe and the rest of the head seems fine. The car actually runs smooth, just a clicking sound. I drove it home (very slow).
