Thread: What's in your tank?

  1. 04-12-2012 09:18 PM #1
    Hello all,

Let me start by saying you guys have a great thing going here - very helpful info and ideas happening!

Haven't actually taken possession of my Jetta yet, but I was wondering what sort of fuel and/or treatments/additives are you guys running?

I'll be getting the 1.4 TSI, and pump gas is either 92 or 95 octane, looking at maybe boosting to 98 or so . . . . what do you guys think?

Diesel is not gas. Choose your words carefully.

I run 93 Octane in my 2.5L SE w/ Conv.

Doesn't matter what gas I run, still gets **** gas mileage. Though there is a slight increase in responsiveness and power with 93 over 89

i'll try it out on both and figure out from there what's the best deal - but 'more power' sounds good!

You're not from the US, are you? Octane ratings between countries can differ significantly. You stated 92, 95 and 98, which is very similar to what we use in Australia, and is called RON (Research Octane Number). North America uses AKI (Anti-Knock Index).

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_...octane_ratings

    Our 98 is their 93-94.

And to answer your question, you should be pumping 98RON on your 1.4TSI assuming that is the Euro-spec twincharged engine. Pump 95RON on occasion but never pump anything below 95! You will damage your engine. These twinchargers are not meant to run below 95.

Thread starter when do you collect your car? I'm from Trinidad myself and hopin to collect my jetta this week or next week depending on how soon the registration can be completed.

Ziggyboy is right. Nothing less than our premium 95 should be used or else you'll end up with knocking.
