    People also use the "safe environment" BS line because they think that all cities are still the crime filled cesspools that they were 30 years ago. If the city that you are avolding is "too expensive," then that's a direct hint that that's not true. Yeah, Hartford (closest city to me) is a garbage pit that you couldn't pay me to live in, but you also don't have to move 50 miles from it to find a reasonable home.
    More than just home prices all the other required costs of living seem to rise in Hartford.

    Renters insurance.
    Auto insurance.
    The basic mill rate for property tax.

    All more expensive.
