Have her finger you ass.

I think five years is long enough. I'm going to propose on a trip to France next month. I have tenatively been looking for rings, but it struck me that I have 0 idea of what size finger she has. How did you married guys figure out what ring size your gf finger was without her knowing?
Also if you had a relatively modest budget, and a minute chance of rejection would you buy a cheap engagement ring, and splurge on the wedding ring. Or go full throttle on the engagement ring and get a modest wedding ring. She has said in the past that she doesn't want a blood diamond so I am relatively good because I can shop manufactured, or vintage jewelry. My gf is very active and probably prefer a plain band for day to day use, so a 20 carat ring would be a expensive paper weight.
Does anyone know a good place to shop for estate jewels, or second hand rings?
So many questions but I hope she is the one. Wish me luck!

Have her finger you ass.
Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.

steal one of her other rings and go to the jewler to get it sized. make sure she wears it on her ring finger, although they do vary from right hand to left. Most places you buy from will offer free resizing though.

She doesn't have any rings to my knowledge. And if she does I doubt she would wear them on her ring finger.

While she's sleeping, cut off her ring finger and take it to get measured. Make sure you do it quick, because they'll only have a short window to reattach it before she wakes up.

Get her blackout drunk and use a plastic ring sizer?

You probably hold her hand alot. If you use the interlocking grasp, you should be pretty familiar with how her hand feels in yours. I took my mom to the place I bought the diamond, and held her hand to see how different it felt. Mom's hands were a bit smaller, so I bought one ring size larger. Fit perfectly. Buy gold or white gold to start since they can always be resized.

just guess slightly large
That way you can slip it on for that first moment, and get it fixed if you need to later

Hubby just bought mine and then we had it resized. I have tiny fingers...I think it needed to go down to a 4.5. The only thing that sucked was I was without my new ring for a bit. But it was much less stressful that way I think.
Also think about going with other stones for the ring. We had been together for over 6 years when he popped the question for me and we went to look at rings together for a bit. I ended up really liking blue sapphire rings a lot. There are a lot of gemstone options now and most are much cheaper than a diamond (unless you get a gemstone coupled with some bigger diamonds). Different is good IMO. Mine is a band with blue sapphires and diamonds. Wedding ring was also modest but because I wanted to set my engagement ring off well.

If I got a little kid to trace her hand in a fake craft project do you think I could extrapolate her diameter by just knowing the width of her finger?
#13
Did he give you promissory ring before you guys went shopping for engagement rings?
#14
Nah. We're young'uns so he asked me first when we were seniors in high school, saying that if we got through college (going to different schools 2 hours apart) then we would get married. Yes, we were committed but I also knew of people who were officially engaged in college and it was rough on them. It was hard enough for us sometimes. Having a ring tied to it, promisory or not, wasn't something either of us wanted really. But I graduated college and 2 weeks later we were engagedWe had started looking at rings together but we talked about it and had agreed that it wouldn't happen before the end of the year. The day we had that talk he had already bought it

While she's asleep wrap a piece of string around her ring finger real sneaky like and mark how long it is. Figure out how to convert that length to ring size at your leisure.

Also, a ring box in your pants pocket feels like dynamite. It's so incredibly awkward due to the size and value... in other words, wear a jacket with deep, zippered, pockets.

That is a great idea to wait for her to be sleeping. I think I will feed her a bunch of drinks this weekend and try it with a clothing ruler. She is a light sleeper though. I would hate for her to wake up and be like what the hell are you doing? leaving me with no choice but to say something stupid like i have a ruler fetish or give up the secret.

srsly
edit: also after I asked her parents permission, I asked her mom what her ring size was, being that they had bought her jewelry in the past for birthdays and such,

Have your mom find out. Seriously.
She can call your girl, and say something along the lines of, "hey, what's your ring size? I have some old jewelry that I'll give you.....Ohhh, you're a size 6, darn these are too small"
Worked for me, and good luck![]()

I'm in the middle of this right now. I know my gf and I know she's very particular with what she likes, but she doesn't wear much jewelry either. The last thing I wanted to do was buy something that deep down she doesn't really like. So we went ring shopping to get an idea of the styles she liked. While ring shopping we had the jeweler measure her ring size.

Take another one of her rings and go one size bigger, since she will gain weight the first year of marriage.

I'd say get a piece of string and measure it while she's asleep. Just be accurate when measuring the string.
