Anything to see around Whistler?

I'm planning a mountain biking trip to Whistler for July and I'd like to rent a car for a day to go see some sceneries around Whistler. However, looking at the maps of the area, it doesn't look like there's even many roads there. And the coast is difficult to reach, too. So I've been wondering if there's not much to see... Can someone with experience, or a local, throw in some insight?

Not much to see if you want to go for a drive. Vancouver is about three hours away.
