I might be another guy switching from vw to Audi. Can't seem to find any dubs worth buying at the moment. I know the 2.0T comes with a 6 speed manual transmission which is really nice. Is one more reliable than the other, or more expensive as far as maintainence goes? Just would like to see what you A4 owners thought. Thanks in advance.

I'm coming from an audi A4 2002 1.8T, it gave me a lot problems (window regulators, tie rods, valve cover gasket, some sensors, steering rack leak) but they drive very well and excellent gas mileage (34-35 mpg highway). I hated it and loved it.

I have GLI 06 now and very happy with it, less headaches and I like the extra power, I love the interior specially the sporty steering wheel , less turbo lag than the 1.8T too. My only complaint about my GLI is the high stance, but I will fix it pretty soon with some eibach sport suspension, ohh and 2.0T burn more oil than 1.8T too.

    I hope this help...good luck

As I'm sure you already know the B6 A4 only came with a 1.8T. To get the 2.0T you either have to go B7 A4 or the B6 Passat.

The 2.0T has more power and a much better, broader powerband. The cylinder head design is much better and it has variable intake cam timing which helps bring up the bottom end torque a lot.

Both need timing belt changes but the timing belt system on the FSI is much improved. Both have flimsy stock exhaust valves and lots of little plastic stuff that fails.

The FSI's have a very low friction piston ring pack that does tend to burn some oil- they went overboard there.

They also have a cam follower for the fuel pump which needs to be inspected and changed every 50-60k miles tops. They are cheap and the job goes fast- it takes about an hour if you are slow.

Finally, all the direct injection engines have serious carbon build up issues on the inlets- they just have to be cleaned... Probably once every 100k miles roughly- it's a big job. The intake manifold must be removed and the ports carefully cleaned... Expect a lot of labor on that.

The overall architecture is very similar- the FSI is basically an improved 1.8T with it's own set of problems brought on by the new technology.

    I'd buy an FSI, personally.
