Always
Always unless it was self-defense.
Only if it's a stranger.
Never

So I was posting in a different forum on the internets and came across a post about how it was no big deal to "snitch" on someone about something minor, but it wasn't cool to snitch on someone for something like killing another person, especially another family member. So I thought I'd post a little poll in here to see what people in the OT think about the whole idea of "snitching".

I was going to say quite a number of choice things...but I simply chose not to.
I've been enjoying this site myself lately.

It's been an amusing read.

If it was self defense it wouldn't be murder.
Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.

Mentality of those who would never snitch:
I bet the same people would sing like a canary if someone murdered their own family members or friends.

I guess people get their ideas of honor, integrity and social responsibility from mob/crime movies when there's no other guidance in their life.

He has a point... The people paid to be cops in the US (and I'm sure most everywhere) discriminate based on colour and stereotypes. For the last forever, if there was a crime committed and they were nearby they were interrogated... On a good day. On most days, minorities were just beaten and arrested.
I don't support the "no snitch" culture, but this is why the US needs to shift all the money there giving to the military to the states and give raises to police. Increase the standards for incoming officers... If they're are too many citations given, cut the money they get. If too many people die, get robbed, etc... Cut their money. They'll find a way to improve things, that's the beautiful thing.
I've been held at the side of the road at night while 20 years old just for walking along the road while I was living in Indiana. The cop gave me the option of calling my father for a ride or arresting me. I didn't ask what he'd arrest me for, I was too afraid of being shot and I'm white. Not to mention that there was no money if we needed a lawyer to challenge without me dipping into what I saved for college...

I got taken out of high school in handcuffs, charged with trafficking(which I wasn't) and eventually kicked out of HS because someone ratted me out. I don't really care.
Thank god I was a minor at the time.![]()

Ok:
If your best friend, or parent or significant other murdered someone and you knew about it, only you and the case was cold and there was a good chance 99% or better that they would never get caught, would you snitch?
Regardless of your answer, your not a subject of the investigation and nobody else knows that you know...
. I would not tell.
Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

I've only ever associated the term "snitching" with someone I have some sort of relationship with.

I would only "snitch" on people who believe that is an actual term worth using.
"Yo man, you gonna snitch on me!?" - "Well...I am now."

Crime Stoppers is offering $1,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person who committed a crime. I could use $1,000 ...unless it was my wife or anyone in my immediate family. If my uncle did it, I'd rat him out in approximately 2.7 seconds. He's a dick

I honestly can't say I know anybody for whom the concept of "snitch" is meaningful in their lives.

I'd never snitch on family and best friends (3). And to them, I have always been that friend that you call to bring a shovel, and I expect the same out of them.
Otherwise, I call the cops.

As well as
-Catch phrases are easy to type/post
-Herd mentality
-Anti-authority anything has always been cool
-Most won't find themselves in a real should I/shouldn't I situation
-An internet wall of protection/anonymity
-Internet bravado
All the while about .5% of readers are impressed by the above. But hey the kids like to play along. And if they're criticized, there's always "haters gonna hate" as a fallback.

The original post is ass-backwards. I'd call it "snitching" if you go out of your way to get someone in trouble because you saw them littering.
Getting a murderer off the streets isn't "snitching."
In one breath, he talks about policing your own community.
In the next breath, if he knew a serial killer were living next door, he'd move instead of calling the cops. It's not his responsibility.
Policing your own community. Right.
How about reexamining your opinion of someone who's enough of a sociopath to commit murder?
If it's a mistake, or a crime of passion where things got out of control, it would be easier to justify looking the other way. But if she just pulled out a knife and stabbed a stranger in the back unprovoked, that's not someone who should roam freely through society unchecked. And you should probably be concerned about being close to someone like that.

"Snitching" for someone, anyone, having murdered someone?
Yeah, I don't care who it is. Self defense isn't murder, so I don't really get that distinction.
Because he took a candybar? Probably not.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated and well supported in logic and argument than others.
