Trying to set the timing and I unplug the blue cts and the engine dies....anyone?
This is correct, however you may need to play with the throttle to keep the engine running once the blue CTS is unplugged. Gotta hold the engine at ~ 2500 RPM to set the timing anyhow...Im pretty sure the blue cts (coolant sensor for the ecu) has to be unplugged to set ignition timing, and the black cts is just for the gauge.
Once ignition timing and idle are correctly set the engine "may" idle roughly with the CTS unplugged.

your idle is set incorrectly. You need to adjust your idle screw. Once this is correct then your car will idle with the blue cts unplugged.
Check your bentley for the procedure i dont do it as per bentley i use a different way which isnt liked on the forums but my idle is purrrrrfect
