Thread: Utah: Best body repair shops?

  1. 04-16-2012 12:41 PM #1
    Hey guys,

I am in a bit of predicament. I have a project car, that needs a bit of body work. Usually, I would suggest my cousins place to do the work, but I think the amount of custom work that needs to be done might intimidate them..

My poor little Saab has some rust issues that need to be taken care of. It's going to require a bit of cutting, welding, and fabrication.

Does anybody have anywhere to suggest? It's kind of embarrassing for me to ask, but because of all of this, I am starting to lose motivation on a project that meant so much to me in the beginning..

I would say Schneider's. I haven't had any work done from them personally, but they will be my go to place. I believe they are one of the only shops in SLC capable of working on Ferrari etc.. and other high end cars, so they definitely have the experience I toured their shop one day and they do some awesome stuff

Id recommend Everest Collision on State, myself and a few other MKV guys have had work done there. Sean is awesome and will make sure everything is right before you pay a dime.

Ive also had work done on my tacoma from schneiders and they are ok... My drivers side rear door got backed into and I had them do the work. In certain sunlight you can see exactly where i was hit, and where they blended in the new paint. Needless to say I wasnt very impressed

Every shop is crap at certain times or jobs. It really comes down to holding their hand while you make sure they know how to get the job done for you... Thy all suck imo. I can pick apart any paint job from any shop .. in the right light.

Id recommend checking out Alpine, Schnieder, Wasatch, Everest and Shine. They are the big names lately. Id talk with each of them in person and try to meet the painter or see them in action in the shop for a sec .. just to get a feel for the was they run their shiz.

Choose the one that you like. Cust service and just the energy and communication is how I would choose..

    Good luck.

Everyone is recommending collision repair shops. Can you vouch for any "custom" work from any of these shops? Jordan can easily go to Unique and get the same quality work They did my shaved bumper, hatch, and hood. Although I did have to send the bumper back once.

it can't hurt to call and ask. if you call schneiders, talk to Margrit. i had a coworker have his old 2002 redone by them, fix a bunch of rusty spots, still looks new even though that was years ago.

    This.

The work that needs to be done isn't just regular collision repair work. I need someone that isn't afraid to fabricate.

These damn swedish cars.. The front fenders aren't easily swapped out. They are welded all around, down into the firewall.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am checking all of them out to see who suites the job.

Jordan, I know a guy.. Worked with him at Wheel Werks. Has been welding for 25+ years. Knows and understands metal refinishing. He builds custom cars out of his home. Extremely legit. As far as rust repair, metal fabrication, he could be your guy. Then you can go to your trusty body shop to finish the paint. Let me know if you are interested. I can get you introduced. I know he has his personal 65 mustang in the garage being repainted at the moment, so he'd be a little bit out, but worth the wait. (Ive been trying to get my squareback in there for repair on the front end where it was hit and repaired, but not perfect)
