Did a go westy engine swap in a friends 1.9 vanagon. Everything is fine except i am not getting fuel.
If i bridge the terminals for the fuel pump relay it will run but if i flip the key i get no prime from the pump nor can i make it fire up.
so i checked terminals 13 and 7 of the ecu harness and i have no voltage with key on.
so i bridged the pump and cranked the engine hoping it may just stumble and it seems even the injectors are not firing.
checked all grounds on the ecu and all check out.
any thoughts on this? i am at a loss.

It has been a while since I had a similar issue, but on my 86 GTI I had the same issue and it stumped me for two days.
It turned out to be the braided ground that attached to the valve cover..
I know I know, you have a vanagon issue..
But look on the driverside of the vanagon engine for a similar ground strap. I am trying to remember if there was one to hook up when I did the top end job and reinstalled the 2.1 in my 91 Vanagon.
The fault you descibe is this ground lead to relay energize signal that I had happen to me.
If you don't see a ground lead on the drivers side, look for it under or around the air box.
There should be some ground lead that attaches to the engine from a harness point.
