you need to trim the selector arm to clear the cuff. you can still bolt the 5th gear selector fork to it though. Swapping from 5th to cuff would involve removing 5th gear input shaft, and 5th gear pinion shaft, selector arm, and selector fork.

save your money it does not help anything, we tried it and same results, removed it, shaft can't move it goes thru the upper case... if anything get roller bearing insted of needle bearing..

Yeah, figuring out the bearing size might be a bit over my head in terms of preload. I think I will take your advice and just stick with a pinion brace.
It all makes sense though, Honda guys run a insert for the pinion that is SS and ties the pinion and main shaft together. They also use a handcuff where fifth would be.
