i wanted to go Press Club but they are booked![]()

I'm in, provided it's not too far from home. I'll have the kids with me.

Sweet so what does everyone recommend apart from Wes' Stalactites![]()

Ill be looking to take them out say around 7pm Thursday night.
Something nice looking to pay $40 to $50 a main?
Doesnt have to be Greek cuisine. Heard great things about Hellenic Republic but doesnt look up market enough to take clients out.
i was thinking Rockpool but i dont want them spending $100 on a steak![]()

I really don't think Rockpool will be any less expensive than the Press Club, particularly with the degustation menu. Rockpool's a good choice insofar as it's quiet enough to hear one another talk, there's never a problem getting a table and the food is good. And if you do have someone buy a $100 steak, get a combination of grass fed and grain fed steaks aged over a variety of different periods ie. 30 days, 60 days and 90 days, have the waiting staff split them up and try a bit of each one.
The 30 day grass fed FTW. 90 days starts to taste like salami on the turn.

Station Hotel in Footscary. Gastro Pub but the dining room bit is quite nice. Good steaks not break the bank stuff.
#11
Paul, I hear a gtg right there one evening! Sounds like a great little place.
#12
Yeah but i can imagine a knob ordering the $150 steak and then I tell the waiter to split and he will be like wtf and things will be awkward.
At least at Press Club there are no real $100+ dishes.
Any other restaurants in Melb?
Station Hotel looks nice but i dont feel comfortable taking them to a Pub
Something like this place in Perth was awesome:

Everyone had a good time and the food was great!

The Little Press Club is quite good.
But really, I think Matt needs to take Costa to Richmond for his birthday.![]()

Costa, try taxi in fed square. Just as good as the press club IMO.

There are about 20 places at the standard of Press Club. Are they blokes? Take them to Vllado's in Bridge Rd Richmond (10mins by cab from Flinders St max.) - its a Melbourne institution. You want food? Pick your cut of steak... great for vegetarians.
Rockpool is just an overrated steak house. Last time I was there for 3 hours and I had this obnoxious wog sitting behind me with his mail order bride and they had a "hair in their food" and wanted everything for free and a $150 voucher... turns out it was in their entree and they didn't make it aware until midway through their dessert. It was comical to watch given they pulled out all stops to get something while the staff pulled out all stops to avoid giving them what they wanted...
The staff were a mix of hipsters and uni art students... had no f*kin clue.

Most overrated place in Melbourne. I gave them the benefit of the doubt after a bad experience and they backed it up with equally terrible food/service.
Hellenic great (I used to live around the corner but deffo not sort of place you'd take clients.
You should be able to get a table at Ezard.

Ezard
PM24
Il Solito Posto
Papa Goose
Taxi Dining Room
Punch Lane
The Atrium Bar
What would your top 3 be?

San Telmo - Great for steak
Cecconi's - Italian
Lupino - Italian
Yu-U - Authentic Japanese

Three best in bold:
Longrain Melbourne: had lunch there last week. Amazing Thai food, just spectacular.
Vue de Monde: the best in this list, but the bill will make you wished you ordered everyone a $100 steak at Rockpool.
Ezard: nice, nothing special.
PM24: sounds like a grade of dust particle.
Il Solito Posto: lovely place, but possibly a bit noisy for a business lunch involving six people.
Taxi Dining Room: one of Melbourne's finest. While Smarm may know that if you turn the chemical structure of lignocaine on it side, it looks like a man with a small erection, he knows nothing about restaurants.
Punch Lane: again, nice for lunch with friends, but nothing special.

You sir and are an idiot and a fool.
The last time we gave taxi the benefit of the doubt, we went the degustation again. After informing the staff about a shell fish allergy (which was one small part of one dish), the staff assured us that it was fine.
And it was. The didn't bring a dish out for me. They bought my wife the dish. They "forgot" to substitute something for me.So I had to watch my wife eat a course. Brilliant service chaps. Then proceeded to charge us the same amount! Amazingly incompetent. I don't know how they're still in business. Also, the food was medicore at best.

Has anyone tried VdM since they moved to Rialto?

Hey Costa, I understand Vue DeMonde is okay for seating these days.
Should be free, but can't do too late. Still recovering from your last visit lol.
Maybe we should go get Kenny and relive the fast and furious. I'm sure he's got his licence back by now.

Been awhile guys but thought i'd suggest a place.
Try Rococo on Acland Street St Kilda.
Not that expensive and good food.
Not to mention next door (95 Espresso Bar) make same good coffee also.
