Yeah these are kinda dumb. Only people that drive the area frequently will care or remember.
And in traffic- there is always one or two drivers that slow for the reduced speed limit even when outside of the days/times they are valid.

Honestly- just require all school zones to have those "when lights are flashing" signs.
    Those are relatively idiot-proof.

    Oh- and this one.

As drivers- aren't we supposed to assume that sign is everywhere?

"But officer, there was no "Speed limit strictly enforced" sign. I thought that meant I could speed through town posthaste."

    and.........

These are ALL OVER the semi-rural/rural Midwest. I know what they mean, I know what they're for; but the ambiguity, holy sh*t.

I know it sounds silly, but sometimes it's sort of like an extra reminder, rather than posting tons of extra speed limit signs for areas with a lot of out of town travellers.

it's similar to the drunk driving one- they're sort of admitting they have a speed problem and are just reminding you

Speed Zone, I'm actually not familiar on the strict legal definition. Does it mean "A speed limit exists ahead", even though speed limits exist (mostly) everywhere? Does it imply that the limit changes, maybe dramatically?

And also (i'll get a picture of it later) we have red lights at intersections with green arrows telling you go straight... Make up your mind!!

    Fractional speed limits

Day/night speed limits are a little wacky sometimes.
Add to that the separate posted limits for trucks and things become a little more confusing.
Higher speeds during the day time when traffic is heaver and lower speeds at night when traffic is lighter.

At least around here the night time speeds have started to disappear and we just have the higher day time limit posted.

85 sounds so fantastic. I-5 between Redding and LA needs some of that.

...instead we have a dumbass 55MPH towing limit state-wide.

?? not to pick a fight
but if those signs are confusing to you, maybe you should take a driving class?

its simple, Day time: visibility is good, you can go faster
Night time: limited visibility means slow down
Trucks tow heavy stuff and should be limited to lower speed
85 is nice though, wish we had some of it here in CA

Not me, but others seem to have problems grasping the concepts.
I had no problems understanding them.
But at speed if you catch a glimpse of 4 speed limit signs, or two double signs, you do not have time to read them. So for out-of-staters it was a problem.

It's not that the Dachshund crossing sign is confusing as much why the blank do they even need it? If so where are all the Poodle, Chihuahua, cat crossing and other easy animals to run over signs too?

Not really a WTF one, but more of a laugh. One of the good things about having a delivery job was finding odd street names.

You'd be surprised at how many who do. And some railroad crossings are on weird intersections. Not too far from my house, there are railroad tracks that are about one car length away from the stop sign at a 4 way.
