Has anyone tried a 272/272 setup with high flow cats? What is the sound difference people talk about with the 272 cam?

The MKIV's say the exhaust sounds less aggressive.

yeah, in powerdubs(sp?) thread he states the sound was not desireable, so much that he sold his 272/272 and re-bought 268/264 as there was no power difference on dyno tests.
again I hope I'm not misquoting him but from memory I beleive he says it retarded the exhaust sound.

I'm running the 272s with no cats. N bola.... I think it sounds orgasmic!

Anything else i should do as i put in my bigger 272/264 Cams and bigger 2.25 Cats with Exhaust????
I think i will be pulling off the Headers to port and polish them out as big as the OEM ports are on the Head.
I Really want to get as much power as i can out of this 3.2 but retaining the NA set-up?!?!?!
So i was think of doing WaterMeth, any ideas????
#188
Since you already have the e85 setup i dont see you getting anymore gains with water/meth for the price. Worth a shot though. Porting the manifolds sounds like a good thing. A friend of mine has the stock manifolds off his 04 R32 and i was thinking about grabbing them from him since he said i could have them and get them ported out. Any idea if these fit and line up with our downpipes?

Usually don't port headers, if anything you match port the head to the headers. I think you're maxed out on mods, gotta fine tune whatcha got.

Yeah there is about a 5mm lips that is smaller than the head and exhaust gaskets, so i will be matching them to the same size for a best match feel.
Also, i know the MK4 Headers have a different angel or pitch to them than the MK5 headers and there are different cut outs to them on the flat side of the header itself. Only way to tell is to check the part numbers or take off the headers and look at the dead on from the inside and see what the cut outs look like and compare.
I believe the cut outs are the J looking grooves on the inside of the headers. I think they are there to keep the hot air separate from the cold air, i believe, dont quote me on that but thats what it looks like to me.
Not really sure if the different parts make a huge difference but u never know till u try it.

I only get to work on the car for 1-2 hours a night after work but I started on monday night and here is where I am at. So far I have it all torn down and the new 272/272's bolted in. Might time the motor tonight if I feel up to the task.

Nice work JC, looking forward to the results.
What I meant is, it's called "match porting", a regular porting would entail porting all the way through.

Just got it running. Need to still put the front bumper on, bleed cooling system and change oil. Maybe test drive tomorrow.

Install all finished. Test drive and data logs all look good.
Oil change tomorrow and maybe a dyno again next Saturday.

Just some info to share. With the 272/272 cams vacuum at idle is now 12-13, they also needed about 10% more fuel. Fuel trims were pulling 7% fuel out on stock cams and they are now adding 3% with the new cams.

About half the time I don't understand the importance of what JC is saying. A good thing, I suppose. It means I may one day expand my knowledge. Do these cams come in blue?
On a more serious note, I've got about 40 miles on my 272/264 cam install. Seems like a little more grunt down low, more 'chirp' on LC, and the power seems to pull farther towards red line.
I'll get it to a dyno soon.
It seems like I'm running 3-4 degrees F warmer. Is that to be expected? More power means more heat, and all that?

3-4 on Oil temp, as reported by my Kufatec Fiscon.
I don't know what a fuel trim is, which was part of my lame attempt at humor above.
#204
Its the precentage of fuel the motor receives at a given rpm/load. Typically, with any mod that actually gains power, the precentages will increase as the motor needs more fuel to accommodate the new found power.
@jayyyw

ahhhh oil temp, driving the car harder would deff do that. I try not to look at stuff like that being turbo, I think I would scare myself.

I've been slacking on this, but I just set up for after Thanksgiving, on the 26. Question, has anyone recommended different plugs for running with the cams?
Twin-electrode plugs like the NGK BKR7E Copper Spark Plug or the Copper Spark Plug, VR6 R32, Bosch Heat Range 5, Twin Electrode look like possibilities. . .
