I know this is probably an over-beaten topic, but....

I want to put the H&R springs on my TDI. I'm on a limited budget, so just getting the springs would be ideal. However, I've been advised that getting the cup kit with springs and shocks is the way to go.

Is it a waste of money to just go with the springs and keep the stock shock and strut setup? Or wil, I still get the sportier and lower ride?

    Thanks

i've heard just doing springs doesnt really change the ride height much, but it is also different for different people (idk why) the cup kit gives a good nice low ride while being a bit stiffer, its apparently a pretty sweet deal.

however, if i were you, i would save for coilovers...thats what i did. brand doesnt matter all too much, just dont get some crappy ones. i've heard st coilovers are good, my buddy has FK, H&R are nice. i personally have KW V1, lots of reasons for that but i wont get into it now.

if you can, find a TDI in your area on H&R springs and see if they'll let you drive it to get a feel?

you will get a ride height difference, as is advertised on whatever spring you choose. it's generally ok to just do springs without changing out the OEM strut/shock combo as well. this is always a big topic of debate. you will definitely shorten the life of the OEM setup, but it's by no means sacrilege or taboo. everyone does it.

now, if you're looking for a setup that was designed to work together from inception, then a cup kit is what you're looking to get. coilovers are a pricier option but give you the flexibility of choosing ride height and sometimes dampening/camber adjustments if you go for a more advanced setup.

i'd say if you don't care, aren't going to be doing any crazy driving, and just want a lower ride height, go for springs. everyone else is just trying to upsell you on more expensive parts.

what he said. springs lower the car not shocks/struts. cup kit is designed to work together. i had hr sport springs on stock shocks for about 4k and it was fine, towards the end i could feel it making the car a little more bouncy. if you dont care or dont mind replacing your oem shocks in 20-30k then go for it

DG springs intalled and allinged for $650, or use the money towards an H&R cup kit and do tires rub with cup kit?
