    nevermind i got it covered!


    but thw question was....

    how do you weld a SS flange onto a cast turbo manifold and do it RIGHT and not crack later.

    I don't see this as being much different than people welding SS discharge flanges on their cast turbine housings... and that is done all the time. I think their is a specific rod you're supposed to use for this (super missile something or other?), but I know people that have done it without and haven't had any issues. I guess I'm curious why you think you need to out source this work (maybe I'm missing something?). Either way, good luck

    from research....you need to heat it both...weld it with 309...and cool it evenly in a oven....and its still possible to crack.

    doesnt matter now...i got a new manifold

    Shouldn't have deleted the post.

    Cast steel isn't as tempermental as cast iron when it comes to welding. Cast steel to 304, use inconel or 309. Heat evenly to 300-350 before welding, wrap in fiberglass and let it cool.

    Gray cast iron (engine blocks) oven heat/cool with ni66 or ni99 stick rod with the flux pounded off.
