Thread: Upgrade to Keyless?

  1. 04-18-2012 01:31 PM #1
I'm surprised I miss two things from my wife's car: keyless entry and the automatic headlights.

10 years ago I bought a Focus that lacked the keyless lock/unlock features. When I asked the sales guy what it would cost to have that added, he tossed the key fob at me and that was that. Apparently all of their cars had the feature ... you were basically paying them to give you access to it.

On that note, I noticed my Tig lacks any keyholes on the doors and started thinking that maybe it has all the guts for keyless entry and just needs to be activated.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure, but even if so, is it possible to add keyless entry / keyless start after the fact?

Edit Mine is an SE with Sunroof & Nav.

    thanks much ...

If I understood you correctly you're trying to make it like an SEL where you just touch the handle to lock/unlock your car? If that's the case you're in for a lot of work/money. You'll need all 4 new handles, new key fobs, I am sure you'll need some type of a module and I would not be surprised if you'll need to convert to a button start as well.

You understood right and said just what I feared. Oh well. It certainly isn't the end of the world, I was just surprised at how accustomed I had gotten to having it on my wife's car.

Appreciate the feedback. Looking forward to lurking on the site. Lots of neat stuff on here! (I look forward to seeing how your back up camera project goes...)
