Can any one explain to me how to tell how much a head has been decked. I'm looking at getting another head and want to make sure it hasent been deck to far. I have a abf rep motor with 159mm and 9:1 comp wosner pistions. I don't want to buy a head and put it on and relize the piston to valve clerence is off.

On the Intake valves, it sits just below the head. Not much but if you use your head as a reference and measure how much is there you can get a idea of how much has been taken.

You can also just look at it and tell most of the time. Any head i have ever had done, the shop will stamp or mark it.

If there has beed valve work (likely if the head was shaved) you will get inaccurate results.

The best thing is to measure from the Valve cover Gasket surface to the bottom (or from the Head bolt seat through the hole to the bottom.
