What tune is it?
#1
Got a 2012 VW GTI that I got tuned at Avalon 3 weeks ago and the car wont start as of last night. Throws a ESC Fault and blinking TPMS and fans come on high speed.
Ill keep everyone updated on what I find out, cars getting towed back to Avalon tomorrow to see if its something with it being tuned or something I can get serviced at VW

oh man... I hope the ECU isn't fried. They have to seal that ECU back up with waterproof sealant after they crack it open and if it's not sealed properly then it can get a bit of moisture in there and............ BUZZZZZ. Plus, the ECU is right under the rain tray... not a good combo there.

Thats what im thinking, if thats the issue, I would think that the company that did the install would cover it yea ?

Avalon is pretty stand up. I am sure they will take care of it of they are at fault.

Those ECUs seal right back up even without the APR supplied Loctite 5810A sealant. It's nearly impossible for the watertight seal to be compromised unless the factory sealant is completely removed... and that would also be very difficult to do.
Good guys over at Avalon, they'll figure it out for ya.![]()

Update: So Avalon took a look at the ECM and it and there is a resistor that is burnt and has a burnt spot on the board. They say its in a completely different area of the circuit board from where they worked on it and the probability of it going out from them is very unlikely. They are still overnighting the ECM to APR to see if APR can repair the resistor at no charge to me, so far.

Yeah, the ECM is on order. There isnt 1 in America for my car, so its coming from Germany. 2-3 weeks shipping and it should be here. Avalon is covering all shipping/towing and im basically paying $900 for a new ECM since there is no clear way to prove who is at fault. If I were to go to VW and they redflag my ECM as tampered with I would be paying close to $2500 for everything to be fixed.
Im also getting a refund on APR software and going to stay stock for a little and go with Uni

Update: Avalon called on thursday and said the ECM was in already. Makes me believe they found one locally or in the states atleast. They needed all sets of keys to send it to VW to reprogram everything. I was told it would be done Monday morning.
I did decided to not to get tuned APR again. Im in between continuing to mod the MK6 or buy a mk2/mk3 VR to track and daily the MK6.

WTF?
Brian modified your ECM. How is this not his problem? If he can't guarantee your car wont be ****ed up, he should not be opening the ECM's
He is just making you feel better about taking $900 out of your pocket instead of where it should come from - his... by telling you about going to the dealership. What an effin clown.
I sure hope you don't roll over on that ****.

i've read thru this, and i gotta agree with that BarryV guy. Oh so the resistor that fried was on the other end of the board from where they did the work.... so what's that mean, it's 3 inches away? Who knows, the guy could have been drinking a pepsi while working on your ECU and the fizz could have shot a small drop and hit the PCB.
I'm not saying anything bad about the place that did the work, but come on, what are the chances?

Still find it hard to believe that APR doesnt flash tune 2012's.
With that said, there are only two places I would have gone for Apr. RS and SCR.
#28
Exactly - slim to none.
You mean to tell me that the flash tune was not responsible for the damage, and neither was the technician that took the ECM out of the case?
So the board fried itself coincidentally 3 weeks after Avalon had the ECM apart? Thats a pretty wild coincidence.
OP - I'd be calling APR. If you make enough noise, Avalon will step up and fix your car. A $900 ECM is pale, in comparison to the buisness they stand to lose if APR threatens to pull their license.
#29
If I remember correctly he has contacted APR. I know if it were me, I would be fighting long and hard before I shell out the money for the new ECM. I dont know anything about Avalon so not bashing but they were the last ones touching the ECM so its unfortunate timing for them but kind of a cost of doing that kind of work IMO. I dunno man
#30
The OP and Avalon should be fighting this battle with APR. It doesn't sound like Avalon is helping him one bit, but they were happy to collect his money. If i had to pay for a new ECU, it sure as hell would not go into the pockets of Avalon even if they are saving me a portion of it. As far as I am concerned, the last person to touch it takes responsibility. Take the same stand as the dealer would.
#31
Im in contact with APR right now about how everything is getting handled as I am not pleased by anything right now. Avalon on the other hand installed the "new" ECM and the car doesnt start and Emich VW cant program it. So the new ECM is also dead. Looks like more waiting for me.
On the bright side of things, the car ive been driving daily is a mk3 VRT.... pretty fun, besides gas mileage LoL
