    2012 GLI 2.0 TSI CBFA
    APR DP
    APR Intake & MAF Pipe
    Stock Software

Before anything, I did search for the problems and I understand the p0420 is normal after a DP install and fixed with an o2 spacer, which one I should get for my specific application I'm not 100% sure.

Ok I'm getting 2 new trouble codes after having one of the APR Authorized Dealers do an install of the APR downpipe. The codes are: p0420 (cat system bank 1, efficiency below threshold), p2096 (post cat fuel trim system bank 1, too lean). These added onto the preexisting p0456 (evap emissions ctrl system very small leak), which the dealer installed a new gas cap for at 10kmi and you'll never guess it didn't fix it.

I was reading that the p2096 code is possibly a leak in the downpipe, so I had that checked by two different places. I took it to the dealership first to have them check it, they found no leaks said it was tight all around. Then I took it to the shop that installed it, they said the same thing. The code has been cleared twice since it started and it keeps coming back.

Since I suppose there is no exhaust leak, what other factors am I looking at? Bad o2 sensor behind the cat that could have been damaged during installation? Maybe its being caused by the p0420 fault and an o2 spacer would fix that too? Well damn I don't know!

Any help, knowledge sharing and/or advice would be spectacular and greatly appreciated.

PS I do not blame anyone but thyself! No hard feelings towards APR for producing a quality part that I chose to have installed on my own! I knew I would be dealing with minor emission issues.

The CBFA engine is a picky little bitch when it comes to emissions. I have a BB catted downpipe and a tune, and I have the P0420 CEL. I have tried three different spacers on the 3rd sensor and had no luck.

I also had a P2096 (and a couple others) which I was able to fix by slathering the slip joint and catback joint with that Permatex exhaust sealant. It only takes a tiny leak to throw those codes.

Best of luck, but avoiding the P0420 is very difficult on CBFA. I'm learning to live with it.

I'm trying to get folks to log their o2 sensor values with stock and aftermarket downpipes to try and determine what values the ECU wants to see. I started this thread over at the mkvi forum.

Thank you for the reply! I will try that Permatex exhaust sealent. I will also follow up on the thread and if I get enough time off of work, get some logs for you with the stock pipe and APR pipe. If it takes installing a stock downpipe to pass inspection so be it. The look of a CEL doesnt bother me, its just that too lean code that bothers me.

I have defeated the mysterious TSI CBFA catless CEL
    Wayne Angle Block:

    42DD spacer:

Autozone spark plug non fouler (part number 42002):

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post3234486

    2nd o2 sensor
Wayne Angle Block & one (drilled out) Autozone spark plug non fouler

    3rd o2 sensor
42D Design spacer & two Autozone spark plug non foulers (2nd non fouler is drilled out)

BTW all of the spacers/fouler are facing the FRONT of the car, AWAY from the exhaust stream.

I'm going to be trying the following to defeat this pesky CEL:

BFI Spacer on 2nd o2 sensor:

RAI J-pipe spacer on the 3rd o2 sensor utilizing the smallest insert:

Will report back with my findings. Worst case, I'll need to add some non foulers but I'm hoping the smallest insert on the RAI piece will do the trick.

The CEL has been defeated with the BFI spacer on the 2nd o2 bung and the RAI spacer on the 3rd bung. I'm running a 200cell cat. Hope this helps anyone who has a similar issue.

    Are you CCTA or CBFA?

I have the dreaded cbfa motor and boy is she a peach I was waiting til eurocustoms comes out with a DP for our car(Ryan said 3 weeks, 2 weeks ago). If the eurocustoms doesn't pan out, how can I get this to fit? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volkswagen-G...item27c56fee1c
I have heard about making a "U" out of the bolt holes to the turbo and welding in a new bung. Does anyone have any pictures or input on this. I'm just tired of waiting and don't feel like paying a ton when the reviews I have heard on here bout ebay ones are pretty darn good.

I have a line on CBFA catted downpipes that come with a test pipe section too. VERY similar to the eurojet gen1 downpipe. I have one and the fitment is great. PM me if interested. I believe the price was $400 shipped.

    OP

Sounds like it could be an exhaust leak on the DP. Also why not upgrade to a proper stage 2 software and eliminate any CEL's related to the testpipe? Your car will run much smoother across the board. That will also take care of any issues related to p0420. If your considering something along those lines shoot me a pm and I might be able to help you out.

I have one of those pipes. They're awesome.

Sorry to bring this up but any resolutions to P2096 code? It's driving me crazy lately - and I did check the exhaust clamp, put a newer one and some exhaust paste and it's still creaping back on every 100-200 miles.

I have a feeling you will have to check all of your slip connections and slap exhaust paste on them, including the o2 sensor bungs, if you have spacers on. I still have the code pop up but haven't had a chance to take care of it. definitely a spring project.
