Alright guys... Need some help here. Have a 12 yr old pit bull that we need to contain around the house better.

We started with this flimsy gate:

worked fine for a few months until he learned to knock it down by pushing it with his nose.

Ok... moved on to a better fitting gate:

This one was kind of a PITA to put on and worked fine for about a week, until he learned to jump over it (he is 12, did I mention that?)

So ordered and installed a taller gate - this one:

Came home yesterday to find him standing right by the front door, yes he jumped this gate too.

I've been mounting gates by the stairs, so I suspect that he gets a running start and just jumps over them. We live in a condo and the front door is at the bottom (living space is on the first floor). He gets super excited when we come home or if he hears something outside and just runs downstairs... We're afraid that he'll break his legs doing this crap and need a better solution for top of the stairs. Any recommendations??

Oh and pic of the dog in question...

Not sure of your condo layout, but is a door possible at the top of the stairs? I found out long ago, that temp gates don't do much with larger dogs if their goal is to get to the other side. I think I've gone through about 3 gates so far.

Had my pup pinned into the laundry room at my parents place one day when visiting and used a 5ft "gate". Sure enough, came back that evening and he was walking around the house.

I still don't know how he accomplished this. And this was with a bum hind leg at the time.

Is it possible to let him be out so that he isn't jumping over a gate to get downstairs? Possibly shut the doors to rooms you want to keep him out of?
