Thread: Mk IV cluster swap: how close of a match is needed?

  1. 04-19-2012 02:17 PM #1
I'm looking at replacing a faulty instrument cluster on a 2002 Jetta (2.0l 5-speed). I'm looking at used ones and want to know how close of a match I need to find. As I read it, even if I have the same part number, the internal software in the cluster may not be compatible if the cars are too different. I'm hoping for some clarification on that. In particular, if I find one with the same part number, what else needs to be the same between the new and old cluster:

    Model year
    Engine fuel
    Engine displacement
    Transmission
    Anything else?

    Thanks.......

I should have mentioned that I own a VAG-Comm, so reprogramming is possible.
