when I give it gas, there is a squealing or squeaking noise coming form the engine. I took the tensioner apart and greased the bearing on the pulley. It is still the exact same. It doesnt do it when I just give it a bit of throttle, but if I go heavy or full it does.

    The car is 2003 GLI 24V VR6

    anyone have this before?

I had the belt off, but only checked the tensioner. The car has 278kms on it and I just picked it up. Not sure what the previous owner has done. The belt seems newer but prob didn't replace the tensioner at that time.
It's a squeal. It's also does it at low rpm when I shift up into like 4th or 5th while going slow. I can take a video while driving but not sure how to post it

    Thanks

It's not the variable intake bushings, when those go bad, it sounds like marbles in the intake. Does the noise change with RPM?

I think it may be the broken downpipe. I reached in behind and the flex portion has an accordian style cover. It's all loose and moves around. It makes a scratching metal on metal sound when i wiggle it. Seems kind of similar to what I'm hearing during revs. I've got a replacement DP just have to install it.

Installed new downpipe and scratching/squealing sound is gone.

I'm glad you said that because I have the exact same noise on a custom DP with a 3" flex bellow. Sounds like a couple of crickets squeaking behind the firewall every time you step on the gas. Very irritating.

I might cut it out and weld on a proper Ilok one instead.
